La Mandragora Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
Offering a wonderfully romantic escape in the famous Valle d’Itria town of Alberobello is characterful La Mandragora. This traditional trullo has been tastefully transformed into a cosy holiday home that is sure to reward you with a truly unforgettable experience. It sits at the heart of Alberobello, surrounded by trulli neighbours and with history and lush countryside on your doorstep. Walking through the town’s maze of trulli-lined streets makes you feel as if you’ve been transported to a fairy tale land.
Just as enchanting as its surroundings is La Mandragora’s exquisite interior. History breathes from the ancient stone walls, with loving touches and attention to detail adding to the trullo’s charms. It’s an oasis of total calm and tranquillity, with carefully-chosen features also creating a sense of luxurious comfort.
The main part of the trullo is home to the living spaces. Enjoy atmospheric meals at the well-equipped kitchen dining table before moving over to the comfortable sofa in the lounge area. It’s the perfect place to spend intimate evenings snuggled up with a glass of something bubbly. The double sofa bed can also accommodate two children, making it an ideal option for small families. Under the soft light of the hand-painted ceramic lamps is where you can appreciate how much thought has gone into the selection of materials used throughout.
This is especially the case in the delightful bedroom, with its sumptuous fabrics and the beautifully-crafted copper taps and fixtures of the ensuite shower room. The bedroom is located in the largest alcove of the trullo, with the curves and arches of the whitewashed stone walls making it feel very special indeed.
As if La Mandragora wasn’t magical enough, it also boasts an amazing private spa. A large whirlpool tub with polychrome lights is carved into the stone for ultimate relaxation after a long day.
The trulli features a charming, private courtyard terrace where you can take in views over Alberobello and beyond. The seating area is ideal for treating yourself to a leisurely breakfast or for simply sitting back and soaking up the unique atmosphere that surrounds you.
La Mandragora sits within the Rione Monti district of Alberobello, with small craft shops as nearby neighbours. The expanse of whitewashed trulli with their conical stone roofs are what make it so instantly recognisable – and one of the most-visited Valle d’Itria towns.
Stroll along the streets and rub shoulders with locals who will tell you stories of the area’s rich heritage. There’s also a weekly market where you can pick up locally-grown fruits and vegetables. Must-visit spots come in the form of ancient churches and the museum; with guided walking tours also on offer.
Advertised rates are for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children. Please see features tab for further details. La Mandragora is situated in the historic Rione Monti area of Alberobello – a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s where people flock to see the famous conical roofs and whitewashed walls of the trulli that line a maze of upward-sloping streets. The area faces the modern town centre, so it’s ideally located for exploring both past and present Alberobello.
Within a five-minute walk of your trullo is a wide choice of bars, restaurants and pizzerias for enjoying romantic evenings out. During the day, there are plenty of shops selling souvenirs, as well as more traditional crafts, to browse. Supermarkets offer the chance to stock up on essentials, with treats available at ice cream shops and bakeries. If you’re here on a Thursday, then you’ll get to buy local fruit and vegetables from the weekly market.
As well as taking in the beauty of the numerous trulli, be sure to tick several other interesting places off your list. They include the beautiful trullo-shaped Church of Sant’Antonio (300m), and the museums Museo del Territorio (350m) and Trullo Sovrano (600m). You can also go on guided tours around Alberobello to get an even better understanding of the town’s history and of the iconic trulli themselves.
The modern town centre of Alberobello is just a 10-minute walk away. So why not take the train from here to another lovely Valle d’Itria town – Locorotondo. The journey there takes just 20 minutes. Martina Franca (15km) is another of the popular towns, and you can drive there in around 25 minutes. Here you’ll find an abundance of Baroque-era buildings, such as Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica di San Martino.
The Valle d’Itria boasts plenty of lush scenery to explore either by bike or on foot.
