Villa Spigola Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
With plenty of space to sleep six guests, this carefully restored Puglian farmhouse offers modern facilities and rustic charm to create the perfect home for your Italian escape.
Divided into two separate apartments, Villa Spigola is ideally suited to two couples travelling together or maybe a young family travelling with grandparents. Both apartments are tastefully decorated in neutral tones, emphasising the property’s stunning original details, such as the impressive vaulted stone ceilings.
The first of the bright and airy apartments opens to the garden and is a large open-plan space. You will find a double sofa bed next to a TV and a cosy fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen and dining space here. The sleeping area is separated from the living room with a partition and has access to a brilliant bathroom with a bath and a freestanding shower. This apartment can sleep four guests.
The second apartment is also accessed via the garden and can sleep two guests in a queen-sized bed. The studio offers a small kitchen, a dining area and a contemporary bathroom.
When you want to get together as a group, there is plenty of outdoor space in the garden, and with such fantastic weather, you will want to spend most of your time out here. The inviting private pool is the focal point of the garden, and around it, there are various seating options, including sun loungers, dining tables and outdoor sofas. There is even a covered summer kitchen with a barbecue, a bar and a wood-burning oven to cook al-fresco!
In the 10km around the home, you will find plenty to keep your party occupied; there are walking and cycling trails on your doorstep, you can book organised horse treks through the rugged terrain, and you can also visit local vineyards to sample their wines and tour the cellars. When you wish to head to the coast, the closest beach is a mere 14km away. You could also explore the stunning, unspoilt beaches of the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, which is 20km away and well worth a visit.
If you would like to shop or dine out in the evenings, you could visit the nearby town of San Michele Salentino, which is only 4.5km away or the bustling city of Ostuni which is 10km away. These are just a few villages, towns and cities you can discover during your holiday. You are also well-placed to spend a day at one of Puglia’s famous Trulli towns, such as Alberobello, which is 44km away by car. Villa Spigola is the perfect base for exploring every aspect of Puglia; sitting amidst rolling farmland just 14km from the closest beach and surrounded by a scattering of incredible towns and cities, there is lots for your party to see and do without having to travel very far.
You can visit a wealth of beautiful Puglian villages and towns within easy reach of the home. The closest is San Michele Salentino, a small town 4.5km away. If you run out of milk or wish to enjoy your morning coffee in a lively café, you will be glad to have this town so close. You will find an array of shops, cafes and restaurants here which all line the main town square. This 18th-century town is not a tourist attraction but an authentic town where locals gather, and children play together in the streets. You can see historic churches, an art gallery and a museum here and head out on a Valle d’Itria wine tour.
If you would like to spend the day exploring one of Puglia’s most iconic cities, why not drive the 10km to Ostuni. Made up of dazzling white buildings which tumble gracefully down the staggering hillside, Ostuni is a delight to behold as you approach and only gets better as you stroll around the picturesque cobbled streets of the centro storico. While taking in the amazing views of the sea and the surrounding hills, you can peruse artisan shops and dine in one of the many cafés and restaurants. The city is also packed with historical sites such as the Arco Scoppa, a splendid bridge connecting the Bishop’s Palace to the seminary and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Why not head to the Diocesan Museum, the former home of the city’s bishops, or you could discover the brilliant Archaeological and Civic Museum, which is brimming with ancient artefacts. If you are more of a foodie than a history-lover, Ostuni is a fantastic place to participate in a Puglian cookery class or sample the area’s delicious olive oils and wines.
There are so many charming villages, towns and cities close to the villa that you could spend a full day getting to know each one. A few more options include San Vito dei Normanni, 10km away, Ceglie Messapica, 14km away and Locorotondo, 35km away.
