Follow the sweeping coastline around from the marina and you can pay a visit to San Gregorio beach which is a long, pretty beach with turquoise waters, this is a lovely place to visit and quieter than some of the other beaches nearby. Another fantastic beach to visit is Capo d’Orlando beach which is located in a town which shares the same name, just 6km away from the villa. Capo d’Orlando beach is much-loved and you are sure to wish to spend plenty of time here. The town also has lots more to offer and is steeped in history as it was first settled by the Normans. In town you will discover a wealth of shops, cafes and restaurants, plus you can explore the ruined castle, view the lighthouse and visit the 17th century sanctuary which is still a celebrated place of pilgrimage. Another lovely way to pass an afternoon here is to hire bikes and cycle along the cycle paths on the promenade.
In addition to visiting the nearby beaches and towns, Vista Sul Mare is well-placed for taking day trips to different parts of the island. You could visit the ancient city of Tindari (33km away), head inland to the medieval village of Ficarra (13km away) or even take boat trips from Milazzo to the Aeolian islands (61km away).
Sicily is a beloved holiday destination and with stunning beaches, a rich history and delicious local cuisine, it is easy to see why. When staying at Vista Sul Mare you will be perfectly situated for a break exploring the vast coastline, discovering mountainous walking routes and visiting medieval villages.
From the villa you can see the beautiful sea and the marina, which are both just a stone’s throw away. The closest shops, bars and restaurants are dotted around the waterfront at Capo d’Orlando Marina which is a mere 2km away. You do not have to travel much further to paddle in the sea at one of Northern Sicily’s fantastic beaches as the beach at San Gregorio is just 3km away and Capo d’Orlando beach is 5km away.
For a wider range of shops and restaurants you should head into Capo d’Orlando town which has a modern, vibrant feel to it, though it was founded during The Crusades. As you wander around you will spot historic buildings such as the octagonal lighthouse and the hilltop ruins of the old castle. Visitors flock to the beautiful Sanctuary of Maria Santissima which is a 17th-century church and site of pilgrimage and also to the gorgeous Villa Piccolo. The villa was home to the Piccolo brothers who were renowned 19th-century poets, painters and photographers and their famous cousin, the writer Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa wrote some of his best-known works at the villa when visiting. Fans of the family will enjoy seeing their home and learning more about them, though you can also simply enjoy an afternoon pottering around the pretty home, its museum and vast landscaped gardens.
Another place within easy reach is the historical village of Brolo which is just 6km away from the house. Brolo has a good selection of eateries and artisan shops and sits inside stunning 16th- century walls, though the village itself is much older. The village was privately owned by a feudal family until the 18th-century and has a fascinating history which you can learn more about by visiting Brolo castle. This imposing castle was built in the 10th-century and is now home to the museum of torture where you can see a wide range of weapons and medieval torture devices which were used against invaders. If this is a little morbid for your liking you can also explore the castle rooms, art work and courtyard. The village is an atmospheric place to dine in the evening as you can sample local dishes in small trattorias which open out on to the pretty village squares.
