It would be very easy to spend the entirety of your trip relaxing at your villa’s pool enjoying the gorgeous weather, but as the enchanting city of Marrakech is only a few miles you can make several visits and make the best of both worlds. Marrakech is a city that stirs up all the senses. The bright colours of the wool hanging to dry, the metallic sound of the cymbals of water carriers in Djemaa el-Fna square, the rough edges of antique carpets or the taste of tangy oranges. Near Djemaa el-Fna square, the largest in Marrakech, starts the labyrinth of shopping streets, souks. Even if traditionally, each alley or souk was dedicated to a specific craft, the boundaries are no longer as clear today. Although open all day souks benefit from being visited early in the morning or evening. Don’t worry if you get a little lost, you will make amazing discoveries go with an open mind, a taste for adventure, and a handful of dirhams. Many visitors come looking for the magic carpet of their dreams you will not be disappointed by going to the Berber auction, the most beautiful models are the ancient Berber carpets. Anyone who has tasted Moroccan cuisine knows that it is rich in flavours, even if you are not passionate about cooking simply strolling through the spice market is a fun experience, your nostrils will be filled with the scents of cardamom, cinnamon and cayenne pepper.
Sitting on the edge of the square is the Koutoubia Mosque which dominates the Marrakech skyline, with its distinctive three golden balls atop the minaret. The story goes that the wife of Youcoub El Mansour ate three grapes one day during the fast of Ramadan. In penance she melted down all her jewellery and moulded them into these three balls.
If golfing is on the agenda while you are staying at Villa Ruksha there are at least ten courses in and around the city their design accredited to some of the sport’s most famous names Jack Nicklaus, Colin Montgomerie, and Niall Cameron whose Assoufid Golf Club has been voted the best course in Africa.
Should the tennis court in the grounds fire your enthusiasm there is also a burgeoning tennis circuit with several of the top golf clubs offering tennis coaching along side a few independent tennis academies.
