Casa Penedia Portugal
Holiday Home Rental Description
Situated in the charming little town of Porto Moniz, perched on the northwestern tip of Madeira, Casa Penedia is a stylishly beautiful three-bedroom villa overlooking the ocean and accommodating up to six guests. Featuring some of the most dramatic views on the island, Casa Penedia is the perfect getaway for families and friends, with a bright, spacious interior that oozes rustic charm. The decor is primarily bright white, with sprays of exposed stonework, hardwood floors and classic furnishings, including a large cream corner sofa in the lounge area – perfect for relaxing in front of the TV after a day of taking in the sights.
The villa is uniquely designed to make the most of the incredible views, with ground floor bedrooms and an open plan first floor that opens out onto a large glass-fronted, furnished balcony. Casa Penedia lends itself perfectly to enjoying time together, with ample dining space for you and your guests at the solid wood dining table and a well-equipped kitchen that is roomy enough for everyone to chip in and prepare meals together. All of the high-end appliances you could possibly need are here, including an oven, microwave, toaster, fridge, coffee machine and kettle – as well as cookware, crockery and utensils. The villa also has a washing machine for extra convenience; ideal for holidaymakers who want to travel a little lighter, saving plenty of room in their luggage for souvenirs!
Casa Penedia features two double bedrooms and a twin room, making it an ideal accommodation choice for families with older children, as well as couples or friends holidaying together. A cot and highchair are available on request, too, so even the youngest guests can enjoy their stay in comfort. Each bedroom is decorated to the same high standard as the rest of the villa, with bright and fresh decor, well-appointed furniture and soft furnishings, and comfortable beds that promise a restful night’s sleep. For extra convenience, the villa has two bathrooms with shower facilities – meaning that everyone can get ready in the mornings stress-free!
The villa’s first-floor terrace is a real treat, with sun loungers for reclining with a good book or a glass of local wine and an alfresco dining area. Casa Penedia’s built-in barbecue area means that you’ll be able to rustle up a delicious feast for all to enjoy while taking in the breathtaking views of the Atlantic. Porto Moniz comprises towering mountains and rugged scenery and is famous for its whaling history. Today the town’s main attraction is its many lava pools, which, when filled by the rising tide, provide warm and safe waters for bathing – ideal for kids! These little pools are formed by natural volcanic rock and really are a sight to behold – pack your snorkelling gear, and you’ll be able to take a look at the small fish swimming at the bottom of the crystal clear waters! There is also a natural black sand beach here, one of the very few sandy beaches on the island. There are some great amenities that include a children’s swimming pool and play area, changing rooms with lockers, toilets, a first aid station and a snack bar. There are also sun loungers and parasols for hire.
There are some fabulous walking trails in the area which lead to stunning viewpoints high above the town, and we recommend visiting the harbour and the Forte de Sao Joao Baptista during your visit; both attractions that reflect the town’s extensive history.
The region is also known for its vineyards that produce some excellent local wine (be sure to grab a bottle or two while you’re here!), as well as for offering some of the best fish and shellfish on the northern coast – the grilled limpets are a particular favourite. If you want to immerse yourself in the town’s culture while you are in Porto Moniz – and we highly recommend that you do! – there is a yearly summer cattle fair that is popular with locals and tourists alike and offers agricultural materials and products, as well as a variety of recreational activities that the whole family can enjoy.
Porto Moniz is home to some wonderful restaurants and eateries, mostly offering a variety of Portuguese seafood dishes, including tuna steaks, seafood rice and scabbard fish with banana. It’s worth noting that as it is a smaller village, these restaurants can get pretty busy during the summer months, so for a better eating experience, we recommend eating out in the late afternoon or early evening.
