Rental Description

Casa Melides is an astonishing property that offers peace, tranquility, luxury and the most serene panorama. It is located in the majestic mountains of Grandola in the stunning Alentejo region, 5 kms from the charming town of Melides and 10 minutes away from the beach. The villa’s plot is very extensive and stunningly beautiful. You will wake up between valleys and mountains, breathing the freshest of air and feeling totally away from the hassles of everyday life. The villa boasts the most spectacular of terraces with breathtaking views over the lush greenery to the sea and the lagoon of Melides. This idyllic haven offers four gorgeous bedroom suites and beautifully finished living spaces. It is ideal for groups of friends or a large family who want to immerse themselves in nature and totally relax.
The lucky guests staying at Casa Melides quickly fall in love with its dreamy ambience, its magnificent estate and its heart-stopping views. The incredible, far reaching landscapes and stunning, tranquil beaches of the Alentejo are mesmerising. With golden fields waving in the breeze, wild unspoilt beaches waiting for those first footsteps, immense plains sprinkled with cork oaks, ancient olive trees and vineyards and hills dusted with whitewashed houses, the area has now been discovered by the rich and famous. You will wonder why you didn’t discover it a long time ago! Throughout this stunning landscape, ancient walled towns rise up with castles, gardens and courtyards which offer Arab influences and some with a history going back to the Bronze Age and the Roman Empire. Visitors enjoy many outdoors activities including kayaking, surfing, hiking, windsurfing, scuba diving, hunting for boar, rabbit, hare, quail and wild pigeon and fishing together with fine dining and superb wines. Melides is filled with the scent of pine and eucalyptus and boasts a stunning coastal stretch and a white cobbled central square clinking with glasses and smelling of fresh fish sizzling over coals. It is little wonder that the likes of French designers Christian Louboutin and Philippe Starck, the German artist Anselm Kiefer, the British painter Jason Martin and the Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen are moving in.
Casa Melides offers a beautiful infinity swimming pool which sits on a gorgeous deck in the middle of this rural wonder. The feeling of freedom and bliss is indescribable. Plush loungers sit by the pool. Though you can take your holiday books, you will find it hard to take your eyes off the stunning scenery. Another stunning wooden deck is set in the middle of trees, the perfect spot for alfresco dining under the stars. Next to the villa, you can relax on sumptuous outdoor sofas enjoying the shade on the veranda. Another terrace offers an alternative view and a fantastic selection of outdoor furniture. The gardens are simply amazing, full of mature plants and trees.
The villa’s interior decor is calm, elegant and beautifully finished. There are two large living spaces with beautiful stone floors, comfy furnishings and a variety of artwork on the walls.
Large doors open to the terraces and drown the spaces in brilliant natural light. The dining room is wonderful though you may choose to eat outside most of the time. The chefs in your group will be delighted with the stylish kitchen and its excellent appliances. There is a separate laundry.
Casa Melides enjoys four bedroom suites, all very tasteful in decoration. The master suite is fabulous with a sumptuous double bed and a large ensuite bathroom. There is another characterful double room and two twin bedrooms. These all enjoy beautiful garden views and beautifully fitted ensuite shower rooms. You will not have any guests disappointed with their suite or this heavenly spot.  Casa Melides enjoys a fabulous, rural location in the stunning mountains of Grandola, 5 kms from the beautiful, charming town of Melides. It is just 14 kms from the gorgeous Aberta Nova Beach, considered to be one of the prettiest in the area.
The Alentejo is an increasing beloved place for tourists with breathtaking surroundings combining the best of the countryside along with the sensational beauty of the Alentejo coast’s stunning, unspoilt beaches. The villages and towns are surrounded by undulating umbrella pines, cork trees and stunning rice fields. Very close to Melides and the villa is the Herdade da Comporta, comprised of seven tranquil villages including Muda, Carvalhal, Comporta, Brejos da Carregueira, Carrasqueira, Possanco and Sol Troia. Each has its own charms and you should visit them all! While staying at Casa Melides you should also visit the towns of Troia, Grandola and Alcacer do Sal.
Melides is no longer the secret Portuguese beach spot that it once was. Beyond its sparkling dunes, a thriving creative community of sculptors, artists, architects and musicians have moved in. Surrounded by nature and the scent of pine and eucalyptus, the village has been a sleepy hamlet for more than five hundred years. Now it has woken up and offers delicious local wines and food together with striking new villas dotting the hills and river estuary. The international jet set are starting to make this backwater their own. Melide’s beach is stunning so expect to see gorgeous dunes and fascinating wind-sculpted rocks together with thrilling waves.
Grandola boasts a history going back to the Bronze Age and was an important outpost for the Roman Empire which included large scale fishing, salting and preservation complexes. Grandola offers an incredible shoreline which stretches from Troia to Melides. Activities include kayaking, surfing, hiking, windsurfing, scuba diving, hunting for boar, rabbit, hare, quail and wild pigeon and fishing. The town enjoys an excellent reputation for its fantastic gastronomy and quality wines. The handicraft industry in Grandola includes wrought iron, weaving, tapestry, wooden furniture, pottery, cork and leather goods.
Nestled between Grandola and Comporta is the tiny hamlet of Muda. The hamlet is brimming with tall pines and ancient cork trees, another very natural area. Visitors enjoy horse riding, surfing lessons, yoga, boating, sailing, wildlife watching and much more. Although Muda is not right on the beach, it takes just minutes in the car to visit some spectacular wonders.
The charming village of Comporta is located at the base of the Troia peninsula and at the side of the Sado estuary. With a history going back to the Roman Empire, Comporta is still a hive of agricultural production with rice fields and vineyards producing some fine white, red and rose wines. Golfers love Comporta. Its fabulous Comporta Dunes course was designed by David McLay Kidd within a stunning terrain of pine forest and sand dunes close to Pego beach and Comporta Links is under construction. The nearby Troia championship golf course was designed by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones. Comporta offers an excellent array of activities including horse riding, fishing, hunting, sailing, bird watching and cycling. Comporta beach is a ten minute walk from Comporta village.
Sol Troia is a privileged area enjoying pavements sprinkled with towering palm trees and pretty flowers. The village is situated at the centre of the Troia peninsula between Comporta and Troia. It is an idyllic location just off the coast of Setubal.
The exclusive Troia boasts a championship golf course, a trendy marina, spas and a casino. Visitors enjoy sea and river fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and cycling. Troia lies at the top of the peninsula just off the coast of Setubal and is overlooked by the Serra da Arrbida Nature Reserve. Visitors can take the ferry over to Setubal which is a twenty five minute crossing with the car or ten minutes if you take the catamaran as a pedestrian. Otherwise, you can drive via Alcacer do Sal and Comporta village. Troia is a wonderful area of natural beauty and is home to much wildlife including flamingoes, storks and dolphins.
Further south from the villa is the small seaside town of Sine, the birthplace of the great explorer Vasco da Gama. This historic fishing town enjoys kilometres of sandy beaches and wild, untamed waves.
