Villa Lagoa Formosa Portugal
Holiday Home Rental Description
Villa Lagoa Formosa enjoys a spectacular position in the Estuario del Sado Nature Reserve, part of the culture-rich region of Alentejo, this unique two-storey villa beautifully blurs the lines between outside and in.
Wooden finishes, floor-to-ceiling windows and natural decor create a sense of understated luxury, allowing the lilac lavender shrubs and centuries-old olive trees that inhabit the garden to take centre stage. You can tell that this home has been designed and furnished with the utmost respect for the area’s history – the rustic touches are almost a love letter to the traditional fishing huts of the region.
If you’re looking for a relaxing retreat, there’s plenty of space to enjoy some peace, with three of the bedrooms boasting private entrances and outdoor patios. Whether it’s a few moments of morning meditation, an afternoon yoga session or simply a cup of coffee and a good book, be sure to take some time out for self-care.
There are plenty of ways to enjoy family time, too – we recommend buying some local ingredients and hosting a barbecue, which is best enjoyed alfresco on the outdoor dining table. After dinner, take a seat around the fire pit to toast marshmallows and watch the sun descend over the nearby rice fields.
You couldn’t be in a better spot if you’re looking for the best of both worlds, with a beach just 700 metres away offering surfing and dolphin spotting – take a picnic and blanket to enjoy lunch on the white sands. If you fancy something a little less remote, the village of Carvalhal is close by, offering an array of trendy boutiques, cafes and seafood restaurants.
After a day of exploring all that Alentejo has to offer, return home for a cooling dip in the infinity pool, followed by a refreshing outdoor shower. If you don’t feel like doing the cooking, hire a private chef for the evening and sit back to enjoy some authentic Portuguese dishes and a few glasses of wine.

Once boasting history’s largest empire, Portugal now happily tends to its own small but beautiful patch, inviting visitors to uncover its treasure trove of natural wonders. From its 800 km coastline along the Atlantic to its golden beaches, clifftop castles, verdant valleys, mist-covered woodlands and beautifully preserved medieval towns, there’s far more to Portugal than just its balmy weather and seafood. Along the southern coast, the Algarve beckons with intimate coves, stretches of endless sand, whitewashed fishing villages and a lively party scene in Faro and Albufeira. In the north, Porto is home to spectacular architecture and its namesake wine, courtesy of the Douro Valley’s vineyards. Visit Lisbon for its cinematic hillsides, fado bars, and trams, Sintra for its Eden-like gardens and glittering palaces, and the eastern borderlands of Alentejo, where the white sand beaches are gloriously empty and time rolls by at a treacly pace. Factor in the island of Madeira’s emerald forests and the Azores’ promise of Atlantis’ remains, and you’ll soon see why Portugal satisfies any traveller’s wishlist.
