Located in the town of Ponta do Sol, translated into ‘Point of Sun’ in English, Villa do Suprema is found on the south coast of Madeira and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area and to the sea beyond. As the name suggests, it is rumoured that Ponta do Sol sees more sun throughout the year than anywhere else of the island. As with many of Madeira’s beaches, the town’s beach has a black, pebbly shores thanks to the island’s volcanic rock.
As you arrive at Villa do Suprema, you are welcomed into the ground floor where you will find the villa’s main living space. The living area is sunk down a few steps from the main space and is framed by large sliding doors leading out to the pool terrace allowing natural light to flood the room. This modern space boasts contemporary furniture, sleek white walls and flooring and a large comfortable sofa for snuggling up in the evenings in front of the television for movie nights. The dining area is partially open to the living area and at a higher level. Seating eight guests around the stylish black dining set with large comfortable chairs, guests can dine here while enjoying the views out of the large sliding doors. The kitchen is found behind the dining area and boasts a sleek, monochrome design and another small dining area seating four guests that is perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat before heading out to explore the local area. The kitchen is well-equipped with all you could need to cook up a storm and is sure to please the chef of the group. A laundry room is also found on the ground floor and is equipped with a washer and dryer for your convenience.
The first of the four bedrooms at Villa do Suprema is located on the ground floor. Home to two single beds with a colourful feature wall and monochrome bedding, this room is a great place for those looking for some peace and quiet away from the group. This bedroom also benefits from large doors out to a small garden and an en-suite bathroom for added privacy. The remaining three bedrooms are found on the first floor. The first bedroom is home to a sumptuous double bed and also benefits from its own en-suite bathroom, while the remaining two bedrooms are home to a double bed and twin beds respectively and share use of a family bathroom also found on this floor. The first floor also benefits from a small living area on the landing with large windows across the width of the space, providing a peaceful spot to read a book and admire the hillside views.
There is ample outside space at Villa do Suprema to be enjoyed. The private infinity pool is sure to be a hit and is surrounded by a decked terrace dotted with sun loungers, so you can easily jump into the pool after relaxing in the sunshine. A lawned garden wraps around the villa, providing plenty of space for any kids in the group to run around and play. An outdoor lounge area is found to the front of the villa and is covered by a large sail providing shade. Tucked to the side of the villa, you will find a jacuzzi – perfect for relaxing in the evenings under the stars!
Steps from the pool terrace lead down to another terrace area enjoying yet more stunning sea views. Here, you will find a covered outdoor dining area and summer kitchen accessed through sliding doors equipped with a kitchenette and barbecue, perfect for alfresco dining. There is also a bathroom on this level for added convenience. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morroco sits the island of Madeira. At 35 miles long and 13 miles wide, the island is definitely not the largest found this side of the Atlantic, but it enjoys a privileged position with a mild year-round climate making it a popular holiday destination.
Villa do Suprema can be found on the south coast of Madeira in the town of Ponta do Sol. Translated into English as the ‘Point of Sun’, it is rumoured that this town receives more sunshine than anywhere else on the island! The town is a popular spot to enjoy seafood thanks to its restaurants serving a range of delicacies, from muscles to Madeira’s famed Espada or black scabbardfish, making this town a seafood lovers paradise. Like many of the other beaches across Maderia, Praia da Ponta do Sol is home to deep black shores thanks to the island’s volcanic rock, making going to the beach a somewhat unique experience!
Around a 30-minute drive east of Ponta do Sol you will arrive at Funchal, Madeira’s capital city. Funchal’s Old Town is always popular with visitors thanks to the number of sights, restaurants and bars in the area. The main shopping streets of Rua do Aljube, Rua da Carreira and Rua Dr Fernao Ornelas are great for a bit of retail therapy. Or if you are looking to learn more about the history and culture of the city, then the Cathedral of Funchal is certainly a place to visit. Built during the peak of Portuguese power in the 16th century, the cathedral was built to be a symbol of Portuguese power and prosperity. In particular, the altarpiece at the cathedral is simply stunning; with gilt woodwork, small sculptures and oil painting, it really is a sight to behold.
Travelling west from Villa do Suprema and you reach the town of Ponta do Pargo on the western tip of Madeira. Known for its striking high cliffs and strategically positioned lighthouse, this majestic town is a beautiful place to visit. From the town, you can visit the magnificent Gardanta Funda Waterfall. Accessed via walking trails from Ponta do Pargo, this waterfall is simply stunning and offers a wonderful viewpoint from which visitors can admire the views of the surrounding cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
If you enjoying hiking, then a trip up Pico Ruivo is a must-do whilst visiting Madeira. At 1,862 metres high, this extinct volcano is the highest peak in Madeira and offers spectacular views from the top – if you are lucky enough to reach it on a clear day. One of the most popular paths starts at Achada do Teixeria. Taking around an hour and a half and with a climb of 300 metres, this hike takes walkers through stunning trails through the hillside.
