A six-bedroom, three-bathroom traditional villa close to the town of Barcarés in the North East of Mallorca. Set on the very edge of the water, this authentic Balearic villa offers sea views from your garden and a light-filled space to call a home away from home.
Cream floor tiles run the length of the villa, helping create an effortlessly stylish aesthetic complimented by the crisp white walls and neutral colour furnishings. The living room is relaxed, with stone walls and wooden tables bringing a low-key feel to the space. A large corner couch faces the working fireplace, creating the perfect space to curl up on as the cooler nights start to draw in.
The living room is open plan and adjoins a dining area which boasts a sleek wooden table and chairs and seats up to eight people. A large doorway sits between the dining area and the outside space, so guests can open up the room to the Spanish air and enjoy their locally bought produce with a view of the blue Mediterranean sea. In another room, guests will find the fully equipped kitchen, which is spacious and has everything needed to rustle up delicious meals.
The six bedrooms are light, airy, and tastefully decorated with clean white walls and linens. Five of the bedrooms have two single beds each, and one has a double bed.
Outside, a neat path runs down a pleasant garden which ends in a covered seating area close to the water’s edge. Guests can access the sea from the rocks or spend their days on the sun loungers gazing out over the water. The town of Es Barcares is nestled on the northeast coast of Mallorca between the mountains and the sea. Set amongst the picturesque, rocky coastline are some pristine white sand beaches such as Sant Joan, Mal Pas, Sa Marina and Platja des Morer Vermell. Guests can wile away an afternoon, strolling along the coast and soaking up the panoramic sea views until they reach Bonaire. Hiking enthusiasts can make their way up mountain Sa Talaia, enjoying the small chapel and a good restaurant at the beginning of the trail.
A short drive or cycle away is the port and holiday resort of Alcúdia, which should be on everyone’s wish list, thanks to its winning combination of a soft sandy beach and a historic old town.
Those wanting to immerse themselves in authentic Spanish life can head to Alcúdia’s famous open-air market, held every Tuesday and Sunday. The market has two sections: one is the farmers market which sells produce grown on the island, and the other section is dedicated to clothes, crafts, jewellery, and souvenirs, making it an essential stop to pick up gifts for those back home.
Alcúdia is also home to Spain’s smallest Roman amphitheatre, which sits a twenty-minute walk from the town centre, and history enthusiasts can find more historical treasures dotting the town in the form of 15th, 16th and 17th-century Renaissance and Rococo palaces.
A ten-minute drive away is Port d’Alcúdia, a popular resort town which, at high season, bustles with people who come to seek fun and enjoy the restaurants, beaches and activities that the port has to offer. The main beach is Playa d’Alcúdia which has received the much coveted European Blue Flag for its clean waters. Being very family-friendly, the beach has excellent facilities, including showers, toilets, and changing areas. There’s also a children’s play area, gym equipment, and for those wanting to get out on the water, there’s a huge range of water sports. Kayaks, paddle boats, and stand-up paddle boards are all on offer. Those wanting something in the way of relaxation can rent lounge chairs and beach umbrellas for the day.
A fifteen-minute drive away is Pollença. An ancient town steeped in a rich history which can be discovered at every turn of its narrow and pretty streets. The ‘Pont Romà’ two-arched bridge dating back to Roman days continues to be a draw for visitors.
The town centre houses the 18th-century Mare de Deu dels Angels church, which has a beautiful rose window. The church is a fine starting point for learning about the fascinating history of the town itself, which dates back to the time of the Knights Templar. The centre beautifully mixes history and tradition with leisure; visit on a Sunday morning, and you’ll find the square lined with market stalls and local Mallorcans relaxing with a coffee after church.
