Villa Sombra Spain

Luxury Villas
| 4 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

Just a short stroll from the local beach and village, this homely villa is ideal for a relaxing stay with all the family and a great base to explore the surrounding area.
Recently renovated, the comfortable spaces are arranged across two levels, featuring traditional Catalan vaulted ceilings and terracotta tiled floors throughout. Entering from street level, there is a well-equipped kitchen with modern appliances and a small table to prepare food or enjoy a morning coffee. An open-plan living and dining space is minimally furnished, with a dining table and cosy sofa area arranged around the fireplace. There is also a large TV making this the perfect spot to snuggle up in front of a movie on a rainy day. The room is well-lit and spacious, with sliding patio doors that frame views out to the garden beyond and giving access to the covered terrace. Tucked beneath the roof overhang, the charming patio features a seating area and generous dining table, making it the perfect place to enjoy a meal outside or make the most of the long, balmy summer nights with a bottle of wine. There is also a barbecue on the lower garden level, so why not visit the local fish market to buy the catch of the day and make a delicious dinner for all the family?
On the first level, there are two main bedrooms. A generous double, with a lovely ensuite featuring a bath and stand-over shower, and a further bedroom with two single beds. Next to the kitchen, there is an additional room with a desk and a smaller trundle bed. A family bathroom provides another bath and standover shower, and a separate laundry room is ideal for washing sandy clothes or staying for a longer period.
A fourth bedroom with a bunk bed can be found on the lower level, and there is a sizeable games room complete with table tennis and table football. Large sliding doors draw in the light and give access to the garden beyond, making this the perfect area for children to play and entertain themselves without disturbing the rest of the family.
Both levels enjoy views out to the well-kept garden, with tall pine trees and vibrant foliage to make the property feel completely enclosed. From the ground floor terrace, steps lead down to the grassy lawn and private swimming pool, which has sun loungers and an adjacent dressing room and outdoor shower area. With the beach just a short walk away, there is plenty of time to nip out for a morning swim or afternoon stroll on the sands, but the undisturbed terrace and garden are perfect for a bit of tranquillity and invite you to spend a quiet afternoon beneath the shade of the trees.Situated on a leafy residential avenue, Villa Sombra offers a tranquil base for exploring the delights that the local area has to offer. Once a mere fishing village, the charming little town of Tamariu is just a short walk away, making it an easy stroll down to the local supermarket or to enjoy a long lunch at one of the restaurants. Surrounded by rugged pine-covered cliffs and cypress trees, Tamariu is a friendly town with a promenade that stretches around the crescent-shaped beach. South facing and sandy, the blue flag beach has a gentle shore making it great for families to enjoy floating in the shallow water to watch the afternoon activity and admire the little boats that anchor in the cove.
Multiple restaurants are dotted throughout the town serving up a variety of food throughout the day. Why not wander down in the evening to sip a cold beer on the promenade before enjoying a selection of local Catalan dishes at any one of the seafront terraces? Whilst the region draws its cuisine from both the mountains and sea, make the most of the daily catch of fish or try the delicious ‘Suquet de peix’. This traditional stew was invented by fishing folk making the most of whatever had been caught that day, and is notable for its deep red colouring as a result of being mixed with saffron. Another tempting dish is ‘bacalla’, a salted cod fish that can be spread on toast and is used as a base in a variety of Catalan dishes. Set in the northeastern coastal region of Catalonia, the area is popular with divers, with many caves to explore along the submerged mountain of the Llosa de Cala Nova. Rent a kayak or take a boat trip to admire the rocky coastline and visit the charming Cala Pedrosa, a smuggler’s cove just a mile south of Tamariu. This remote spot is ideal for a romantic afternoon to either pack a picnic or enjoy a refreshing drink from the tiny cafe that operates out of what was once a fishing hut. Another hideaway is the pretty cove of Aigua Xelida, a short boat ride to the north. Also accessible by road, this tiny beach is nestled between the pine-covered cliffs and boasts clear turquoise waters for swimming.
For a larger beach, the popular Llafranc is just 20 minutes north by car and offers a clean sandy bay wrapped by a promenade. Colonised by the Romans during the 4th century A.D, it is possible to explore the remains of the Roman archaeological civilisation, including the church of Santa Rosa. Perched between Tamariu and Llafranc is the San Sebastia Lighthouse. Built to protect the region from pirates and invaders, its position on the steep cliffs makes it a wonderful place to spend time and enjoy a picturesque vista of the surrounding coastline, and on a clear day, you can even make out the Pyrenees. Larger than Tamariu, Llafranc has numerous eateries to enjoy and several seafront terraces flank the promenade and welcome you to sample some local Catalan cuisine whilst enjoying views out over the sea.
