Situated close to the pretty village of San Carlos, Finca Melvin is a beautifully traditional-style villa that promises guests a family holiday to remember. Bursting with child-friendly features and luxurious touches, this four-bedroom villa offers guests privacy, peace and tranquillity on one of the most beautiful parts of the island, with stunning countryside views and home-from-home comforts.
Finca Melvin features modern decor throughout with rustic touches that include whitewashed walls, wooden beamed ceilings and a cosy fireplace. The soft furnishings are comfortable and practical, in light, neutral shades that complement the villa’s country farmhouse flavour. The lounge area has ample seating around the flatscreen TV – an ideal area to chill out or entertain the kids while you prepare meals or plan your day. There is a spacious dining area that seats up to eight guests and a well-equipped kitchen complete with a breakfast bar and full of high-end appliances, including a Vitro ceramic hob, oven, large fridge-freezer, microwave, filter coffee machine and Nespresso machine. The villa also has a handy laundry room with a washer and dryer – perfect for those who want to pack light and save room in their luggage for souvenirs.
The villa has a good configuration of bedrooms, with two twin rooms on the ground floor and two doubles on the first floor – ideal for larger families or groups of friends holidaying together. Both double rooms and one of the twin rooms have ensuite shower facilities, with a separate shower available on the first floor, and all feature flat-screen TVs and air conditioning. One of the double rooms has access to a furnished terrace – a perfect spot for enjoying a morning cuppa or an evening aperitif. The bedrooms are decorated to the same high standard as the common areas of the villa, with a light, neutral decor punctuated by pops of colour in feature walls and artworks, and are all beautifully light and airy, promising a comfortable and restful night’s sleep.
From the ground floor, lounge area guests can access Finca Melvin’s gorgeous outdoor space, which includes comfort zones for lounging, a Balinese bed, several seating areas, and a barbecue and alfresco dining area. There are plenty of places to enjoy pre-dinner drinks, sunbathe and relax, and shaded areas that are ideal for reading or just getting out of the sun. The villa features a private pool and a jacuzzi, as well as a separate children’s pool – perfect if you are holidaying with the little ones.  Finca Melvin is situated close to the village of San Carlos, an area that was famous in the 1960s and 1970s as a hippy village but that is still popular today with those that enjoy peace, tranquillity and community spirit.
The village enjoys a bohemian yet cosmopolitan ambience, featuring a mix of traditional, modest fincas alongside newer properties that have been built to reflect the style and charm of this beautiful location, all surrounding the beautiful white church at the centre of the village. You’ll find a good selection of bars and restaurants in San Carlos, including the famous Anita’s Bar – once famous with the hippy community as they had the only phone in the village – the original booth is still there (and functional!) today. Whether you’re after a sleepy cafe or a fine-dining experience, you’re sure to find a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and once you’ve enjoyed some of the local delicacies on offer, be sure to stroll through the village to the surrounding shops where you can browse for colourful fashions and charming souvenirs.
While you are staying in the village, Excellence Luxury Villas recommends heading to nearby Las Dalias (less than 1km from San Carlos) and visiting the original hippy market, where you’ll find larger-than-life characters and vibrant stalls on the ivy-covered terraces and courtyards. During the summer months, the market is there long into the evening, slowly giving way to the nighttime events that take place on the beautiful open-air terrace, continuing later in the village’s club, Akasha, which features incredible acoustics, cool design, and DJs and live acts from around the world.
San Carlos itself is at a junction that branches off to some gorgeous local beaches, including Cala Lena, Cala Nova and the nudist-friendly Aguas Blancas – all featuring facilities including loungers, parasols, and lifeguards, with restaurants and beach bars nearby. Cala Lena is particularly popular with families as there is good access for pushchairs and the disabled, toilets, clear, shallow waters (ideal for the kids!), and pine trees offering shade – perfect for a secluded and relaxing picnic with family and friends.
