This villa enjoys a superb Marbella location, with all the attractions of the Old Town and city centre within a drive of around 15 minutes. With beautiful parks and a central square filled with orange trees, Marbella has an enticing charm. Look out for cobbled streets filled with quirky boutiques, some excellent museums and fantastic cultural festivals that bring a traditional Spanish flavour to the city in summer.
In addition to the one on your doorstep, there are many more golf courses all over Andalucía, an area which is also blessed some stunning areas of nature – be sure to visit the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, for example. Excursions to historic towns like Málaga, Mijas or Ronda are also easy, and there’s plenty of fun to be had in popular coastal resorts such as Benalmádena and Torremolinos – look out for the many attractions that are ideal for holidaying families.
Marbella’s upscale nightlife and food and drink scene make nights out in the city something special – if you fancy living the high life, or just watching those who do, the marina at Puerto Banús is the place to be. If it all gets too much, there’s nothing more pleasant than a stroll down the Marbella promenade as the sun sets. With wonderful beaches like Fontanilla and Bajadilla, it’s no surprise that Marbella is a popular visitor destination. This southern city is also conveniently located, meaning you can easily sample the best of the Andalucía region using Marbella as your base. Whether you seek relaxing walks through nature, the best nightlife scene on the coast or an adventure-packed family break, it’s here.
The charming streets of the Old Town are a great place to start, and can hold their own against their equivalents in more classic Spanish cities. The Plaza de los Naranjos, or Orange Square, is the focal point, and is filled with orange trees, tapas bars and restaurant terraces. The surrounding area is a maze of cobbled lanes filled with little shops selling handmade clothing and jewellery.
If you want the chain store experience too you can find it at La Canada. This mammoth shopping mall is packed with big names and throws in a cinema and dozens of familiar eateries – it’s around 3km north of the Old Town.
That said, your dining options extend quite a bit further than food court fare. Marbella has several Michelin Star restaurants, but there’s plenty of creativity to be found on menus all over town. Fresh seafood is an excellent choice, and traditional Spanish offerings such as bull’s tail are served to the adventurous. More familiar world cuisine including Asian, Mediterranean and Indian is not hard to find, and Spain’s deliciously chocolatey churros are hard not to find – the ubiquitous treats will certainly keep you going.
The walled city boasts a number of historic sights – the 16th-century Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation on the Plaza de la Iglesia is a highlight. Many of the buildings on the Plaza de los Naranjos are of a similar vintage, including the Town Hall. The Magistrate’s House and Marbella Castle are also architecturally appealing.
City parks, such as Represa and Alameda are pretty places to stop, elevated by their water features and botanic gardens. Close to Alameda Park is the Avenida del Mar, where a procession of Salvador Dali sculptures can be found. Art lovers may also want to check out the Museo del Grabado Espanol Contemporáneo, an important local museum featuring Spanish engravings and more besides, housed in a former hospital.
Also culturally significant are the many festivals and events on Marbella’s calendar. The Marbella Film Festival and International Arts Festival are worth being in town for, while summer’s Starlite brings heavyweight musical talent to the city.
Finding a venue for an amazing night out is easy, with numerous bars around the Old Town, some with live music or karaoke. Marbella’s glamorous nightclubs are as chichi as they come, and attract the big-name DJs too – it’s worth rediscovering your ability to pull an all-nighter when the settings are so magnificent.
Outside the city, there’s much more. Head north for the region’s natural playground, the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, where mountains, caves and castles create photogenic landscapes perfect for outdoor pursuits. Around an hour’s drive from Marbella, Ronda should be on your list – the dramatic views over the gorge in this unforgettable town are jaw-dropping.At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
