Spanning the southern coast of Spain, this is a great spot to lay on the beach all day and soak up the sun. Make sure to take a trip to the nearby Tarifa, only twenty minutes away by car. Take a stroll through the old town and stop for some delicious tapas before heading down towards the beach and marvelling at the sights. This point is well-known because it’s the southernmost point of continental Europe, and you can easily see Morocco from here. This area of Spain is also well known for its watersports like windsurfing and kitesurfing, which are great activities to learn on some of these beautiful beaches. If you have the time, we recommend travelling a little further out of the town and heading toward the stunning sandy beach of Bolonia.
For the golf lovers of the group, you’re in luck! A bit further north is the area of Sotogrande, which is famous for its golf resorts. Sotogrande boasts no less than five world-class golf courses, the Almenara Golf Club, La Canada Golf Club, La Reserva Golf Club, Real Club Sotogrande and Real Club Valderrama. It also offers a golf academy, so this is certainly a brilliant destination for golf fans. Real Club Valderrama shot to international fame when the 32nd Ryder Cup was played there, leading to this part of the coast being temporarily renamed the Costa del Golf! The challenging course was designed by Robert Trent Jones. Though it is an exclusive members club, there are occasional opportunities for visitors to play. Sotogrande is also known as ‘the little Venice of the Mediterranean’ for its attractive tree-lined canals and bridges. There are hundreds of berths in the stunning marina, together with excellent restaurants, cafes, shops, professional services and watersports facilities.
Orquideas del Mar is located very close to the port city of Algeciras, which has everything you could need on your holiday! Be sure to explore the typically Spanish main square, the Plaza Alta, before resting in the Parque Maria Cristina, one of the oldest parks in the city. From Algeciras, you can also catch a ferry to Tangier, which takes roughly 1.5 hours, and is a great option for a day trip! Another fabulous day trip is to Gibraltar, only a 40-minute drive away from the property. Officially a British territory and iconic for the Rock of Gibraltar, it’s a little Britain on the Mediterranean coast.
