The villa is complete with a shaded al fresco dining table too – perfect for gathering with family or friends with a glass of wine as you watch the sunset.
Inside, each room is bright and spacious and is fully equipped with the best mod cons. There’s an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room, as well as a laundry room. The five bedrooms are spread over three floors, with one on the top floor boasting an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi tub and floor-to-ceiling windows where you can survey the breath-taking landscape from your armchair. The other bedrooms are equally inviting with thoughtful homely touches like dressing tables and mirrors.
For a traditional taste of Turkey, the villa also has a shaded outdoor seating area with a classic patterned Kilim (rug) and a shisha pipe. Having your own kitchen and stone barbeque too means that you can pretend to be a local, haggling at Kalkan’s market for fresh local produce and tasty treats. This old fishing town, turned popular holiday destination, still retains its old-school charm and laid-back, friendly atmosphere. Head to the harbour with waterfront restaurants or wander the streets with pretty white-washed houses draped in bougainvillaea flowers. With the majestic Taurus Mountains nearby alongside ancient sites, there’s plenty to see and do.
The landscape around Kalkan is diverse in exciting walking trails, including the famous Lycian Way Trail. From gentle half-hour walks to more strenuous full-day excursions, you can discover a wealth of history and culture. Traverse through olive groves or head to spots like the preserved ‘ghost village’ of Kayaköy with hundreds of deserted, Greek-style houses and churches.
For relaxing downtime, there are plenty of beautiful beaches in and around Kalkan, including Kaputas Beach – a stunning cove with turquoise water and sand. There’s also Kalkan’s own beach, close to the harbour, with clear water for snorkelling. Patara Beach is also worth a visit. It’s rich in wildlife and is the breeding ground of the endangered loggerhead turtle. It’s also a short stroll from the area’s ancient ruins; a vast theatre as well as impressive Roman baths.
History lovers can continue the culture and visit Tlos in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains. It’s one of the principal cities of Lycia, and you can still see the remains of the Acropolis, fortress, cave tombs and a Roman stadium. For more fun day trips, you can jump on a boat from Kalkan Harbour for a day trip, stopping in various coves. If you drive beyond Kas you can get a boat to go to Kekova island with underwater ruins of Dolchiste, an ancient Lycian settlement. Saklikent Gorge, a beautiful river and 18km canyon is also well worth a visit.
