If you like a sea view, Villa Kayra is the one for you. Located high in the hills of the tiny village of Ordu, Villa Kayra commands sweeping, uninterrupted views over the town, harbour, and bay of Kalkan on Turkey’s coveted Turquoise Coast. This single-storey luxury villa has two spacious ensuite bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to four guests, ideal for a small family or couple. Honeymooners may also enjoy a discreet escape from it all getaway. Villa Kayra is shiny and modern, built out of classic Mediterranean white stone, with a tiled terrace and a ten metre private swimming pool as its centrepiece. The interiors are contemporary, using only the finest fixtures and fittings, whilst the décor is a palette of primary colours. Floor to ceiling glass windows flood the villa with natural light and gives the villa an airy ambience. There is an on road parking, and complimentary air conditioning and Wi-Fi are included for your comfort and entertainment.
Access the villa down the forty five steps that lead to the front door. Enter a world of open plan holiday living with floor to ceiling picture windows that reward you with panoramic sea views from every room. The seating area has a plush blue velvet three seater sofa, two grey swivel armchairs, a fetching animal print rug, all arranged around a flat screen satellite television, and an enclosed fire for those cooler months and chilly evenings. A complementary grey marble dining table with four blue velvet chairs is ideal for some impressive indoor entertaining. The adjacent all white kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, including an oven and hob, a washing machine and dishwasher, a fridge and electric water tap, and lots of handy kitchenware. The master bedroom has a pink velvet surround double bed, with a wardrobe, a make-up table and nightstand, and an in-room Jacuzzi bath. The floor to ceiling sliding doors offer the whole bedroom breathtaking sea views and open to give immediate access onto the pool terrace. The ensuite grey marble bathroom has a walk-in shower, wash basin, and WC. The second bedroom has two twin beds, a wardrobe, a dressing table and night stand, an ensuite shower room, and also benefits from floor to ceiling fabulous sea views.
Step out onto the tiled terrace from any of the indoor rooms, where you will find your very own private ten metre infinity swimming pool, imagine a few lengths before breakfast, a cooling afternoon wallow, or a midnight dip. The pool has an inset for four electric blue cushioned sun loungers with matching parasol, where you can dip your tootsies in the pool as you relax under the midday sun. Refresh under the pool’s two rainfall showers before sitting on the terrace, cocktail in hand, as you watch the sunset over the horizon. The quaint harbour town of Kalkan is situated on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, the jewel of the Mediterranean Sea.Kalkan is one hundred and thirty kilometres from Dalaman Airport, a scenic two-hour journey through the Turkish countryside and Taurus mountains. Originally a Greek enclave called Kalamaki, Ottoman and Hellenic influences can be found in the winding cobbled streets of the old town, full of traditional white houses, festooned with brightly coloured bougainvillea, and home to a reputed one hundred and fifty restaurants, cafes, and bars, and lots of souvenir and craft shops, full of goodies you’ll want to take home. It’s just a ten minute drive into Kalkan where you can find supermarkets, shops, banks, and a local Thursday market, that can provide all the you will need to cater for a happy holiday.
Take a trip into town on a complimentary water taxi to one of the many inviting beach clubs around the bay. You’ll be spoilt for choice with a day at the sophisticated Villa Mahal, or Zest with its huge infinity pool and staged setting, or laid back Indigo and their lovely lunches. No stay in Kalkan is complete without a boat trip from the harbour, whether it’s a shared one with family and friends, or why not charter your own private gulet for a day at sea with your favourite captain and crew, it is the stuff memories are made of. All aboard for a day of swimming and snorkelling in beautiful bays, enjoy a meal of local homecooked meze, take afternoon tea aboard, and then sail back to harbour, cocktail in hand to watch the famous sunsets. For the beach bunnies, Kalkan has its own pebble beach with easy access into the calm and crystal clear Mediterranean Sea.
Travel further afield to the stunning Kaputas Beach, set in a natural gorge, it’s only two hundred steps down, and two hundred back up again. Or take a trip to Patara, where you will find two two-thousand year old amphitheatres, ancient ruins, and fortifications, and twenty kilometres of unspoilt golden sands, with a protected area for the hatching Caretta Caretta turtles. Back on land, don’t miss the opportunity to experience an authentic Turkish hammam, enjoy the heat and bubbles of a hands-on massage, and be pampered in one of the many super spas all over town.
The Lycian Way walking trail cuts through Kalkan for those with itchy feet. Follow in the footsteps of thousands of years of history as you trek the trail taking you through major archaeological sites, local villages, dramatic coastlines, and the areas’ flora and fauna.
Take a short journey to the town of Kinik, where you can step back in time to the Lycian city of Xanthos. Follow the D400 to Fethiye, and discover the historical sites of Patara, Letoon, Tlos, and Pinara, where you can see the ancient ruins, amphitheatres and temples with Lycian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine influences. The harbour town of Fethiye is also full of ancient sites worth seeing, as well as a foodie-heaven fish market, and home to some seriously good designer labels and fabulous jewellery shopping. Whilst the nearer town of Kas is just twenty-five kilometres away and worth the journey alone along one of the world’s most stunning and dramatic coastlines. Walk through the harbour to the cobbled streets full of Ottoman architecture and overhanging balconies adorned with pastel coloured bougainvillaea, barter for unique handmade and antique goods in its many shops, and make memories dining in one of the traditional restaurants serving authentic Turkish cuisine with mesmerising sea views.
