Welcome to a world of chic and sleek living when you vacation in Villa Semra, located in the hills behind the holiday hotspot of Kalkan on Turkey’s Turquoise coast. This five bedroom, five bathroom, three storey contemporary villa, can comfortably accommodates up to ten guests, perfect for a large family gathering, or a friend’s get together. The villa boasts panoramic sea and mountain views, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a hamman, sauna, and a fitness and games centre to keep you all amused throughout the seasons. This impressive architect designed, iron grey villa has its own private parking space, and comes with complimentary Wi-Fi and air conditioning throughout. Floor to ceiling windows flood the property with natural light, and returns the compliment with magnificent views. The interior has been tastefully decorated with a neutral palette with muted colour highlights, curated modern art, and some seriously funky lighting effects.
Enter the villa at ground floor level where you will find an open plan living space with floor to ceiling sliding doors throughout, with as far as the eye can see sea views. The living area has a beautiful curved dove grey wrap around sofa, that could easily seat eight people, a contrasting burnt orange armchair, and round coffee table, facing a smart screen television set in a gun metal grey shelving unit. The adjacent cool black and white kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, including the must-have tea and coffee makers, an island hob and a breakfast bar with stools, and the latest built-in fridge-freezers, oven and microwave, and dishwasher. The dining area has a modern table with eight burnt orange suede chairs, and is the ideal place for some impressive indoor entertaining. A handy guest cloakroom completes the ground floor. Take the open plan wooden staircase to the first floor, where there are three ensuite double bedrooms, all decorated in subtle neutrals and natural wood. The largest has a double bed, dressing area, an in-room bath, an ensuite marble walk-in shower room, and a fully furnished shared balcony. The second bedroom has a double bed, dressing table and wardrobes, an ensuite bathroom, and shares the balcony with Mediterranean Sea views to the side. The third bedroom is a twin room, with two single beds and a Juliet balcony. The other two double bedrooms are located on the lower ground floor. The largest has an impressive four poster bed, a free-standing bath, and an open plan shower room with twin basins. The twin room has two single beds, an ensuite shower room, a furnished balcony, and floor to ceiling glass windows with a view of the indoor pool, perfect for a few lengths before breakfast.
Keep fit and have fun with all the amazing included luxury extras you won’t normally find in a standard villa. Let’s start with the lower ground floor where there is a rather lovely and large nine metre by three metre indoor swimming pool, really handy in the cooler months. Work those weights in the fitness centre with plates mats, and punch bags. Sweat it all out in the beautiful traditional marble hammam, before relaxing in the classic Finnish wood sauna. Have a health-giving smoothie at the bar, complete with stools, before a game of ping-pong on the black marble table tennis table. Set up your own world cup with the table football, and pot a few balls on the billiard table. There’s something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. For those of you who want a more relaxing holiday, there’s always with the ground floor terrace with a sizable eleven metres by four metres infinity swimming pool with added artwork. The swimming pool is surrounded by five inset double sunbeds, so you can dip your feet in the water whilst reading this year’s holiday blockbuster. Cool off under the outdoor shower before admiring the view on the double swing seat. Chill under the pergola covered soft seating area, enjoy a cocktail as the sun sets, before dining under the stars at the alfresco wicker and wood eight-seater dining table with free-standing barbeque.
Villa Semra is located in the olive groves of Kiziltas, above the charming harbour town of Kalkan. Nestled in the hillside with sweeping panoramic views of the town, harbour, and sea, the villa is situated on the Turkish Turquoise Coast, the jewel of the Mediterranean Sea. Kalkan is 125 kilometres from Dalaman Airport, a scenic one-and-a-half-hour journey through the Turkish countryside and Taurus mountains. Originally a Greek enclave called Kalamaki, Ottoman and Hellenic influences can be found in the winding colourful cobbled streets of the old town, full of traditional white washed houses and home to a plethora of restaurants, cafes and bars, and souvenir shops full of goodies you’ll want to take home. From the villa you can walk to the local shops for provisions, or a short drive will take you into the town of Kalkan, where you can find supermarkets, banks, and a local Thursday market, that can supply all the provisions for a happy holiday.
The town of Kalkan reputedly has almost one hundred and fifty restaurants, cafes, and bars, you’ll be spoilt for choice deciding on whether to eat traditional Turkish food, or dine on gourmet delights in international establishments. Kalkan is well known for some of the best and most exclusive beach clubs, with bathing platforms, fabulous restaurants, and some with full size swimming pools. Take a trip down to the harbour, where you will find complimentary water taxis to ferry you to a beach club of your choice. Located all around the coastline, from Kalkan Beach Park in Kisla to Kulube at Kalamar Bay, there’s a beach club for everyone. Have some fun in the sun at family-friendly resorts offering water sports and swimming pools, unwind at exclusive luxury destinations where you will be waited on hand and foot, wine and dine in their on-site sea view restaurants, or lie back and relax whilst enjoying alfresco holistic spa treatments.
No stay in Kalkan is complete without a boat trip from the harbour, whether it’s a shared one with family and friends or you charter your own gulet, a day out at sea with your favourite captain and crew, is one to treasure. Ships ahoy for a day of swimming and snorkelling in beautiful bays, enjoy a meal of local homecooked meze, then sail back to harbour in time for tea. Make memories to last a lifetime aboard a private chartered evening sunset cruise, sail off, cocktail in hand as the sun sets, and dinner is served. For the beach bunnies, Kalkan has its own pebble beach with easy access into the sea Travel further afield to the stunning Kaputas Beach set in a natural gorge, or take a trip to Patara, where you will find twenty kilometres of unspoilt golden sands and a protected area for the hatching sea water Caretta Caretta Patara turtles.
For those with itchy feet Villa Semra is situated on the Lycian Way walking trail. which cuts through Kalkan. Follow in the footsteps of thousands of years of history, as you trek the trail it will take you through major archaeological sites, local villages, dramatic coastlines, and the areas’ flora and fauna. Take a short journey to the town of Kinik, which has the best local Friday market, and where you can step back in time to the Lycian city of Xanthos. Follow the D400 to Fethiye, and discover the historical sites of Patara, Letoon, Tlos, and Pinara, where you can see the ancient ruins, amphitheatres and temples with Lycian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine influences.
The harbour town of Fethiye is also full of ancient sites worth seeing, as well as a foodie-heaven fish market, and home to some seriously good designer labels and fabulous jewellery shopping. Whilst the nearer town of Kas is just twenty-five kilometres away in the other direction, and well worth the journey alone along one of the world’s most stunning and dramatic coastlines. Pass the new Kas Marina, full of super stylish yachts to the original harbour and working town, with its cobbled streets full of Ottoman architecture and overhanging balconies festooned with pastel coloured bougainvillaea, Barter for unique handmade and antique goods in its many shops, and make memories dining in one of the traditional restaurants serving authentic Turkish cuisine with mesmerising sea views. And if you’re feeling terribly intercontinental, hop on the daily twenty-minute ferry from Kas to the Greek island of Meis, where you can explore the magical Blue Cave and dine by candlelight at the lapping water’s edge.
