Villa Chania D Greece
Holiday Home Rental Description
Chania, a beautiful city on the northwest coast of Crete is famous for its stunning architecture that draws influences from Venice and Egypt, as well as its 16th century lighthouse, narrow streets, and waterfront restaurants. It is here, nestled in an elevated position and looking out over olive groves and endless blue sea, that you will find Villa Chania D, a beautifully modern and well-equipped 2 bedroom villa that accommodates up to 4 guests.
The ground floor of the villa houses a twin and double bedroom, as well as large comfortable bathroom. The twin room is decorated in calming, neutral shades, with light cream walls and tiled floors that contrast nicely with chocolate brown headboards and solid wooden bedside cabinets. The room is simply dressed with light curtains at the large double doors that lead to the outside, little white table lamps, and pale bedspreads in pearlescent pastel shades. The double room follows the same theme of tasteful yet simple decoration, with walls of cream and warm terracotta, paired with the light coloured bedding and furnishings. There is a small dark wood desk in this room, with a large framed mirror, as well as a flat screen wall-mounted TV, and large double doors offering those stunning views from the moment you wake up. The bathroom on this floor features a bathtub as well as toilet and basin, and is decorated in fresh white and chocolate coloured tiles, complemented by the sturdy wooden units that offer storage space for your toiletries and towels.
The first floor of Villa Chania D is a large open plan space that consists of the living, kitchen and dining areas, as well as a walk-in shower room. Modernly furnished and decorated, the decor throughout is neutral in palette with shades of cream and taupe, punctuated by accents of deep chocolate and soft grey. The sofas are of a contemporary design, as are the coffee table and the dining table; that seats up to 6 guests. The living and dining areas flow effortlessly into the kitchen area, where the shades of cream and stone make way for tones of black, white and grey in the tiled walls, contemporary units and food preparation surfaces. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, and fridge freezer. From this floor you can step out onto your private terrace to take in the incredible views of the Greek countryside and out over the sea, the perfect place to sip a morning coffee or an evening glass of bubbly.
Stepping outside you’ll enter your own enclosed courtyard/garden area, complete with pool, bbq and outdoor dining area. Here you’ll be able to enjoy alfresco meals, an early morning dip, or simply lay back on one of the loungers provided, shaded by a parasol and with drink in hand, and enjoy gazing at the beautiful Greek skyline.
The uniquely beautiful city of Chania is located on Crete, Greece’s largest island. Crete is famous for its varied terrain which includes fine sandy beaches as well as the White Mountains, the tallest of which is home to the Ideon Cave, which according to Greek mythology was the birthplace of Zeus. It is on this island you will discover famous archaeological sites such as the Minoan palaces of Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Kato Zakros. There are also 15th century monasteries to visit, including the Preveli monastery in southern Rethymno, as well as Byzantine and Venetian castles including Kastelli in Chania and the Monte Forte in Lassithi. Other cultural attractions in the area include the plethora of museums there are to visit, such as the Cretaquarium, the Museum of Natural History, and the Historical Museum of Crete.
If it’s more of the great outdoors that you’re after then Crete is the ideal destination for all manner of sports and outdoor activities, such as scuba diving, watersports, and horseback riding. The island’s gorges offer unparalleled beauty when it comes to canyon hiking; the largest and most famous being Samaria, but others worth noting are Tripiti, and Ha – the so called ‘King of Cretan Gorges’. There are sign-posted trails through the gorges and you’ll get experience incredibly diverse and beautiful landscapes as you explore.
Here in Crete you’ll get to experience the most famous examples of the Mediterranean diet, long considered the healthiest internationally. There are many shops and market places selling fresh local produce to enjoy, including olive oil and cheeses, herbs and salad greens, as well as assorted savoury pies and sweets. You’ll be spoilt for choice at any of the many eateries and restaurants on the island, particularly in Chania, where, like the architecture, the cuisine has been influenced from all around the world. Crete is also known for its tsikoudia, a schnapps-like firewater that the locals often make themselves. During the evenings it flows at the tavernas, festivals and bars, fairs and cafes, so be sure to bring a bottle home so you can relive the memories.
