For a change of scenery, you could go north to Ammoudi with a longer stretch of coastline, Almyros Beach which is set in a sheltered cove or Havania Beach on the northern outskirts of the town.
For fun day trips from Agios Nikolas, you can jump on a boat to explore more of Crete’s scenic coastline and secluded, rocky coves. You can visit Spinalonga, the smallest of the Cretan islands, with its old Venetian fortress, and you can swim or snorkel off the beaches on the Kolokytha Peninsula.
