This charming, quintessentially Tuscan farmhouse offers the best of both worlds. Less than half an hour by car from the gorgeous medieval streets of Lucca, as well as from the seaside resorts of Viareggio, it’s set in the pristine Versilia hills amid the olive groves of north Tuscany. And with views from its lush gardens that reach across the nearby lake all the way to the sea, it’s a pretty fabulous spot.
A relaxing day here will be spent around the infinity pool (where you’ll find the best views) and cooking in the traditional summer kitchen. Meals can be enjoyed inside, in the pretty kitchen which opens to the garden, but we think you’re more likely to be eating on the terrace, shaded by a grapevine. The feel of the home is rustic but stylish, with plenty of character thanks to original terracotta floors and beamed ceilings. And in the cooler months, there’s a log fire to cosy up in front of in the living room.
Accommodation is over three floors, with a study on the ground floor that can sleep two extra guests on a pair of sofa beds, while two ensuite bedrooms can be found on the first floor and a superb master suite sits above them – with dreamy views and a private seating area. Plus there’s a separate annexe with a bedroom, bathroom and a kitchen which can be used from the pool – making this place as flexible as it is beautiful.
