Stylish and modern in style, the interiors of this villa will amaze as you much as its location. It’s all about convivial open-plan living with a spacious living-dining room featuring contemporary furnishings leading out to the glorious garden. Three pretty bedrooms downstairs offer space for friends or families whilst at the top of the house, under the eaves and wood-beamed ceiling, a spectacular bedroom with its own free-standing bath sits upon a mezzanine level.
Step outside to admire the al-fresco dining terrace and lush gardens. Admire the pots of sweet-scented lavender by the picturesque swimming pool and there is plenty of space to laze on the lawns in the shade of the surrounding trees.
In this quiet residential location, it’s hard to believe you are only a 15-minute wander into the heart of Aix-en-Provence where you can sip coffee in one of the famous cafes on Cours Mirabeau, explore pretty boutiques and book shops or pick up some local delights at one of the atmospheric Provençal markets. Families will love the parks and museums that the city has to offer whilst the more adventurous can hike, bike, rock-climb or even paraglide at Cézanne‘s beloved Sainte Victoire mountain nearby.
Hire a car and within an hour you can be exploring the archetypal Provençal villages such as Saint-Rémy and those in the Luberon National Park or head south to the old city of Marseille and find some wonderful beaches along the coastline, including a wealth of water based activities.
Whether pottering around idyllic Aix-en-Provence or discovering the beautiful region surrounding the city, Maison Gallet is a cool and comfortable home for a splendid stay in southern France. Maison Gallet is set in a residential location at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac only a 15-minute walk to the heart of Aix-en-Provence (1km), with shops and restaurants within walking distance.
Aix-en-Provence is a joyful University city full of art and history. In the centre you will find the famous Cours Mirabeau, a tree-lined avenue with terrace cafes and book shops. Admire the city’s fountains, shops, museums and galleries across the old town and experience the wonderful Provençal market four mornings a week.
Of course, this was the home of Paul Cézanne and walking trails can follow some of the most important places in his life. Walk up the hill north of the city to the open-air museum at Terrain des Paintres (2km), passing the artist’s workshop, Atelier de Cézanne (1.2km), en route. Drive out to Cézanne ‘s beloved Sainte Victoire mountain, which is especially ideal for walking in the spring or autumn with Provençal scenery all around you. It’s also great for mountain biking, rock climbing and para-gliding.
Families will love the parks across the city and suburbs with playgrounds, vast lawns and some hosting events throughout the summer. You can also take a little tourist road-train around Aix, stopping off for gelato on the way or sampling the local sweet, Calissons d’Aix, a delicious iced marzipan well known in the region.
You’ll also find tennis courts and golf within a ten-minute drive as well as horse-riding stables few minutes away. There are some fantastic places for keen cyclists and wonderful trails for walkers and hikers both in the city and the surrounding region.
Impressive Marseille (32km) is just half an hour by car, bus or train where you can discover one of the oldest cities in France. Alternatively, hire a car and explore the captivating areas around you from the mesmerising landscapes and idyllic villages of the Luberon such as Bonnieux (52km) and Ménerbes (60km) to the enchanting Apilles National Park with archetypal villages such as Les-Baux-de-Provence (69km) and Saint-Rémy (73km) possible to visit in a day.
Beaches along the Mediterranean coastline include Sainte-Croix (45km) near Martigues, Ciotat (55km), where you can hire canoes or kayaks or closer to Marseille is the Pointe Rouge beach (41km) with its beachside restaurants. Watersports enthusiasts will appreciate Cap Rousset (40km) with diving in the protected crystal clear waters and windsurfing, canoes, kayaks and paddle boarding available.
