Quinta dos Patos Portugal
Holiday Home Rental Description
Quinta dos Patos is a lovely, bright, four bedroom villa ideal for a large family, a group of friends or two small families. It is situated 4km from the wonderful town of Olhao, 12km west of Faro and 20km east of the charming town, Tavira. The villa is situated on the Ria Formosa Nature Park, famous for its deserted dunes, sheltered pines and breathtaking beaches.
The Ria Formosa Nature Park can be seen when you fly into Faro airport. The stunning network of barrier islands and inlets are created by constantly shifting sandbanks. The nature park is an area of oyster and salt farming, fishing and shellfish harvesting and an important breeding ground for many coastal birds. Ferry boats take visitors from Olhao to the remote islands of Barreta, Culatra, Armona and Ilha Tavira. Quinta dos Patos is situated on a fabulous enclosed plot of approximately 5000 sqm brimming with lawns, colourful shrubs and trees and a huge terrace surrounding the wonderful 11m x 5.5m curvy swimming pool. The pool is surrounded by sun loungers. The pergola-covered alfresco dining area has a small outdoor kitchen area and built-in barbecue. There is also a covered outdoor lounge area and an external shower. The ground floor of the villa flows so well with an open-plan design. The living area features an attractive fireplace though it is for decoration only and the kitchen enjoys a breakfast table as well as there being a formal dining area. There is a fun games room featuring a billiards table. The floors in the living spaces are all tiled and super shiny. The furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. There is also a twin bedroom and a well-maintained bathroom on the ground floor. The first floor gallery has a lovely reading area and three bedrooms which all have en-suite bathrooms and access to a terrace. The bathrooms are all tiled, immaculate and well-maintained. Two of the bedrooms upstairs have twin beds, and the other has a queen-size bed. Quinta dos Patos is extremely comfortable and is situated in a fabulous position, close to exquisite beaches, the nearest being Praia dos Cavacos. Olhao is a major fishing port and is full of charm with Moorish-style houses, an influence from the commercial links to Africa. There is a very long, pleasant promenade with lovely gardens, the Jardim Pescador do Olhanense. There are two ‘must visit’ markets on the waterfront brimming with fresh fish straight from the port and also a colourful array of local produce. There are numerous atmospheric cafes and restaurants, and the food is delicious. It is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the views of the boats moored along the waterfront in the marina and the sand spit beach Ilha da Armona and Culatra. Olhao itself does not have a beach, but you can take a small ferry boat from the quayside to the lovely islands. Ilha da Culatra is surrounded by beautiful blue, clear water with many species of fish, so it is perfect for snorkelling and diving. Ilha do Farol is not totally separate but is the area at the western end of Culatra where the lighthouse is. Ilha da Armona is the closest to Olhao and has a few restaurants. It boasts a wonderful golden sandy beach. Salt & Sea offers wonderful tours along the Ria Formosa visiting Armona, visiting the fishing community of Culatra and enjoying the spectacular sunsets. Faro Old Town is very attractive. The intricate, 11th century Arab gateway, Arco da Vila, gives access to the old town. It is the oldest horseshoe arch in the country. The charming maze of streets are very pretty. The Manuel Bivar Gardens, overlooking the marina, the Ria Formosa and the sea, are stunning. The Municipal Museum at the 16th century Convent of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao is home to many interesting archaeological finds. Tavira is excellent for a day trip. Tavira is very seductive with charming, narrow streets lined with cute cafes and restaurants, lovely streets along the River Gilao and plenty of hidden corners. The charming hipped roofs outline the sky and are very alluring. The Bandstand Garden is very lively in the evenings. You can take a ferry ride across the River Gilao and the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve to reach Tavira Island where there is a breathtaking beach. Praia do Barril is reached by a 1km pretty track or a cosy train ride. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
