La Vieille Magnanerie is located on the edge of the Ardêche, 7 km from the town of Montélimar, which is famous for its production of the confectionary nougat. This ideal – and lesser known – location provides easy access to the Ardêche, Drôme and Provence regions, which means opportunities for exploring are endless, whatever your taste.
The Ardêche is home to spectacular gorges, medieval hilltop villages and châteaux. There are Roman remains, vineyards, caves, rivers and lakes to explore. In a different direction, a short drive will get you to the famous Côte du Rhône Villages wine producers or the ancient cities of Orange, Avignon and Arles. Every day of the week local markets showcase the produce of the region – olives, peaches, chestnuts, truffles, honey, cheese, sweet nougat and bunches & bunches or lavender…
Guests who enjoy being active have a myriad of choices – from hiking to canoeing, wild-swimming to horseback riding. Others prefer to soak up the cultural experiences of world-class theatre and music festivals or perhaps Roman spectacles re-enacted in their historic setting.
The nearest village of Rochemaure, 2km away, boasts a remarkable château perched dramatically on a cliff top. Its tiny cobbled streets and alleys are worth exploring and the village provides all the essential amenities – grocery, butcher, bakeries, post office, restaurants, bar – and wine specialist!
Getting to and from La Vieille Magnanerie requires a car. However, as it is within several miles of the A7 ‘Autoroute du Soleil’, destinations and airports north and south of Montélimar are very accessible. The TGV train stops at Montélimar (7 km away – car rentals close by) or Valence 60km away. While Avignon and Nîmes are the nearest airports, Lyon and Marseilles are under 2 hours drive away.A local, English-speaking person welcomes guests to the house and is available by phone for the duration of the stay.
