Villa Flaminia has quietly looked out from its fantastic position within a typical fishing village on Lake Como’s western shore since the early 1900s. Joining it by the water is the village’s magnificent 13th-century castle.
The lake and pebbled beach are just a few minutes’ walk away, with the village centre and a lovely restaurant also close by. A 10-minute drive will bring you to the town of Menaggio with its lido, sandy beach and swimming pools.
The extensive restoration Villa Flaminia has undergone in recent years has resulted in a holiday home that oozes luxurious style and a top-quality modern finish. And features such as original floor tiles in many rooms are a charming reminder of the villa’s past and heritage. A new swimming pool has also been added in the beautiful gardens with magnificent views over the lake and mountains.
The villa is perfectly suited to larger groups with children. In addition to the four double en-suite bedrooms there’s a snug attic room that sleeps up to five children. It also boasts a play area; making the space feel like a tucked-away, secret part of the villa where children can let their imaginations run free.
Enjoy getting everyone together in the open-plan living/dining space. Doors to the terrace allow fresh air to flow through by day, with flames gently flickering in the fireplace creating a wonderfully cosy atmosphere as evening falls.
Al-fresco meals are even more magical, as the dining terrace overlooks the lake to the mountains beyond. Also enchanting are the lush gardens that the villa sits within. And take just a few steps down the nearby footpath and you’ll be standing right at the tranquil lakeside.
Journey further down the shores of Lake Como to discover a wealth of charming villages, towns and cities. Como is just under an hour away by car and offers a mix of history, natural beauty and culture. A funicular railway runs up the mountains for breathtaking views over the lake and city.
Also visit lakeside Baroque villas with lush botanical gardens and parks. Boats connect the various shores of Lake Como, with the ferry from Menaggio to Bellagio taking around 15 minutes. Bellagio is especially known for the 18th-century garden, Villa Serbelloni Park.Sitting by the shore in a typically charming Lake Como village, Villa Flaminia is a peaceful escape in a staggeringly beautiful setting. Just a few steps away is the lake, with a pebbled beach for enjoying picnics and taking in the scenery. Go for swims and try activities such as paddle boarding if you’re feeling adventurous.
Also just moments from the villa is imposing 13th-century Castello di Rezzonico. Although you can’t enter the castle, admiring it from the outside is impressive enough! And the nearest restaurant for delicious family lunches and dinners is right by the castle. A grocery shop is also just a short walk away.
A greater choice of restaurants, bars, shops and attractions is on offer in the nearby lakeside town of Menaggio. The town boasts a lido with sandy beach, swimming pools, volleyball and a range of other children’s activities. There’s also an 18-hole mini golf course by the lake, with serious golfers sure to enjoy the large course just outside the town.
There’s plenty of historic sightseeing to be done in the cosmopolitan city of Como. It’s just under an hour’s drive away and well worth the extra journey time. Some of its iconic features include the waterfront promenade, Gothic cathedral, and funicular railway that goes up the mountains to a pretty village.
Lake Como is famous for palatial villas and lush gardens, with many dotted along its shores. One of the closest to visit is Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, which can be reached in just a 15-minute car journey.
