|2 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

La Tramontane is a delightful surprise in a residential area of Biarritz, only a stroll away from the bustle of shops, restaurants and the town’s most famous beach, La Grande Plage.
Walk up an elegant, curved wooden balustraded staircase beneath the high corniced ceilings of a characterful house before you step through your own front door. You’ll love the wrought iron juliet balconies which contrast perfectly with the modernity of the interior.
White walls, wooden floors and the American style kitchen provide a sense of light and calm, showcasing modern furnishings where the occasional bright cushion and rug has been carefully chosen to provide a splash of colour.
Biarritz is an exciting city near the Spanish border with fabulous beaches, superb Art Deco buildings and excellent food. It attracts surfers from all over the world and there are many surfing schools along the coast which welcome beginners and children.
A walk away from the apartment is La Grande Plage with its striped tents, children’s beach clubs, great waves for riding the surf and plenty of fascinating people to observe. It’s the central beach of Biarritz with shopping, cafés and restaurants nearby.
Its promenade continues to an even closer surfing beach, Plage du Miramar, which is perfect for a stroll to the lighthouse or for watching the sun set over the ocean in front of the Hôtel du Palais. Families also enjoy the gentler waves of the small sheltered beach at Port Vieux, near the town’s main shopping street.
Take a break from the sea by visiting the covered markets at Les Halles where many delicious local specialities can be found. Head further afield to one of the idyllic Basque villages inland such as Ainhoa or Sare where you can take a train up to the summit of La Rhune, an iconic mountain in the Pyrénées with some wonderful hiking trails and fabulous coastal views.
There are so many outdoor activities to enjoy such as trekking, riding, fishing, cycling, golf, canoeing and so many water sports by the coast.

Elegant Biarritz is on the Bay of Biscay in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region of south-west of France, near the border with Spain and dates back to the mid-19th century when aristocracy built summer residences along this beautiful coast.
La Tramontane is conveniently situated in a residential area near La Grande Plage, lighthouse and the centre of Biarritz and is very near shops and restaurants.
La Grande Plage has striped beach tents, children’s beach clubs, great waves for riding the surf and plenty of fascinating people to observe. It’s the central beach of Biarritz with shopping, cafés and restaurants nearby.
The promenade of La Grande Plage lines the surfing beach of Plage du Miramar and perfect for stroll to the lighthouse to watch the sun set over the ocean. Look out for the belle époque Hôtel du Palais which was built for Empress Eugenie and still retains a vestige of grandeur and old world charm.
Once you have climbed the 200 steps of the lighthouse, the views of Biarritz and the never ending coast are really beautiful. Chambre d’Amour beach nestles beneath the cliffs and the Anglet beaches stretch northwards, some surrounded by grassland and forests with promenades for walkers and cyclists. The famous Chiberta golf course is picturesquely located next to Ocean beach or there are a couple of great golf courses even nearer.
When you have had enough of sand and waves, head to the restaurants in the Port des Pêcheurs, the former fishing port where there is plenty of fresh seafood. Food lovers shouldn’t miss the covered market at Les Halles where many Basque specialities can be found such as touron (marzipan), locally cured ham, mussels and mushrooms. Locals meet here for breakfast before work and it becomes very lively at night. The shopping mall at Les Docks de Biarritz is also well worth a visit on a cloudy day.
If hiring a car, head inland to visit the Basque villages of Ainhoa and Sare, rated as two of the most beautiful villages in France. From Sare where you can take the wooden train up to the summit of La Rhune, an iconic mountain in the Pyrénées with some wonderful hiking trails and fabulous coastal views.
