Maison de La Lune France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Imagine enjoying a late night swim in a heated pool beneath the moonlight before returning to the magnificent opulence of your holiday villa. Maison de la Lune is privately tucked away between the river Nive and woodland – its 1.4 hectares of garden could be better described as private parkland with its ancient trees and well-kept lawns sweeping down towards the river. This is such a private location yet downtown Bayonne and the beaches of the Anglet region are so easily accessible.
It’s perfect for large groups of friends or family, sleeping fourteen over three floors with plenty of bathrooms. The whole house is full of fascinating furniture, artwork, sculptures and ornaments, many of them described as collector’s items. Look out for the life size blue floral horse and the enormous wall paintings in the living and dining rooms. Lie back on the red lounger or relax on the sofa and floral chairs as you watch a film in the home cinema, situated alongside the kitchen in an Art Deco design extension added a few years ago.
Bayonne, just a five-minute drive away, is situated in the Basque country at the confluence of the Nive and Adour rivers, often described as one of the most charming cities in the region. It’s characterised by its narrow, cobbled, medieval streets, old ramparts and half-timbered riverside restaurants. There is plenty to see and do here. Visit the gothic style Bayonne Cathedral Sainte Marie with its 13th century cloister and Chateaux Vieux castle. Chocolate lovers, don’t forget to organise a trip to L’Atelier du Chocolat!
Nearby are the eleven stunning beaches of Anglet, each of which has something different to offer and provide plenty of opportunity for surfing, walking, golfing and cycling. Known as “Little California” they extend over 4.5km of fine sand from la Barre at the Adour Estuary to Chambre d’Amour, situated at the base of the majestic Cap Saint Martin cliff with its famous lighthouse.
The coastline is of course a mecca for surfers and coaching for all ages and abilities or just equipment hire can easily be accessed. Don’t forget to visit the famous La Grande Plage in Biarritz, a fifteen-minute drive away, and admire the Art Deco architecture.
You might also want to explore some of the further wonders of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, whether idyllic Basque villages near the majestic mountains, wilder beaches along the coast or pretty seaside villages. Maison de la Lune can be found at the end of a tree encased road with few other properties nearby. It is situated adjacent to the river Nive yet only a couple of kilometres from the centre of the city.
Bayonne is situated in the Basque country region of Southwest France at the confluence of the Nive and Adour rivers, one of the most charming cities in the region and capital of the French Basque country. It’s characterised by its narrow, cobbled, medieval streets, ramparts and half-timbered riverside restaurants. The 17th century ramparts are covered in grass with pretty parkland areas, some of which you can walk along.

Rue des Faures was once home to the blacksmiths who made bayonets but it’s now the artisan quarter. It’s a great place to browse with galleries, bookshops and one of the last makhila makers – these are the wooden staffs traditionally carried by Basque shepherds.
