Domaine Ostreicole France

Cottage/Gite/Farm, Luxury Villas
| 7 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

In a waterfront setting on the wonderful bay of Quiberon, Domaine Ostreicole offers beautiful style, contemporary flair and authentic surroundings in this magnificent part of southern Brittany.
This exquisite holiday abode comprises two neighbouring houses, each one dating back to the early 1800s and restored with a true sense of character alongside modern design and elegant style. Sleeping up to fourteen guests across seven inviting bedrooms, many with plush king-size beds and intricately tiled bathrooms, the owners have discerning tastes and a keen eye for detail as can be seen throughout each home’s gorgeous living room, high-end kitchen and homely dining area.
Ideal for an extended family or a group of friends, the two houses are joined by a gate between the two gardens, meaning you can come and go as you enjoy a sundowner on the pretty terrace in the coolness of the evening, or you can retain your own privacy if preferred. Both homes feature 21st century features such as Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines and other high-end appliances whilst retaining traditional characteristics and period detail. As you gaze out of the bay-facing windows to watch the tide coming in there’s certainly an air of timelessness around you.
Enjoy convivial meals at the well-known seafood restaurant, just down the road, or wander into the old town of Carnac, around 2km away, famous for its pre-historic stones which attract visitors from across the region. Hire bikes to potter around, the ideal way to reach Carnac Plage, a delightful seaside resort just 4km away with its sandy beach, watersports and weekly summer night market.
The landscapes across this region are incredible whether exploring the islets of the Morbihan coast, following the walking and horse-riding trails down the Quiberon peninsula or admiring the scenery by boat from nearby La Trinité-sur-Mer or the fantastic town of Vannes. You can even take a trip out from Port-Maria to Brittany’s largest island, Belle-Île, home to more beautiful beaches and summer beauty.
Whether you are wanting to spend time pottering around the beaches, trying some wonderful sea-food, seeking watersports and boat trips or searching for incredible walking and cycling trails, this part of southern Brittany is a paradise for relaxing holidays in outstanding natural surroundings.  In southern Brittany, on the bay of Quiberon, Domaine Ostreicole enjoys an enviable position in a traditional oyster farming village near Carnac Plage, 40km south-east of Lorient. Only a local road separates the houses from the waterfront and when the tide is high it’s even possible to take a dip. In this authentic setting you are amongst oyster farms (watch the odd tractor chugging by to collect the oysters) and you can buy all sorts of shellfish directly from farmers in the neighbourhood.
Within just 100m there’s a great seafood restaurant that is open five or six days a week for lunch and in the early evening (if visiting in the winter, check opening dates as it sometimes closes for a few weeks).
It’s only 2km to the old town of Carnac where you will find shops, supermarkets, bike hire and other facilities as well as a handful of restaurants. Head down on a Wednesday or Sunday morning to pick up fresh produce from the Farmer’s market just outside the town. The town is also popular due to its pre-historic stones across three sites surrounding the town as well as a good museum in Carnac itself – a great attraction of the area.
A little further along the coast, easily accessed by car or bike, is the charming seaside resort of Carnac Plage (4km) with its sandy beach, summer watersports such as kite and windsurfing and a thalassotherapy centre for treatments. In July and August there’s a delightful night market on a Thursday evening with all sorts of festivities.
La Trinité-sur-Mer (7km) is another lovely town, accessed via coastal walking paths from Carnac Plage or just a short drive/cycle ride away. The marina is filled with impressive sailing boats, there’s a great daily fish market, twice-weekly Farmer’s market (Tuesday and Friday morning) and boat excursions leave from here. You’ll also find a great range of watersports from sea-kayaks to stand-up paddle boarding and more.
Auray (16km) is a pleasant place to spend the day with its charming port, historic architecture dating back to medieval times and picturesque cafes and restaurants. Combine with a visit to Sainte-Anne d’Auray, a major pilgrimage site where guided tours are available.
You will find yet more incredible beaches, walking paths, horse-riding trails, watersports and idyllic fishing villages along the Quiberon peninsula. It’s also a good place to pick up the boat which takes you from Port-Maria (19km) to Brittany’s largest island, Belle-Île, the home to beautiful beaches and a great opera festival in August.
Another gem in this part of southern Brittany is Vannes (34km) with its ramparts, gardens and atmospheric twice-weekly Farmer’s Market. Boat excursions leave from the port, a lovely way to view the islets and magnificent landscapes of the Morbihan coast, or follow over 100km of sign-posted walking trails around the area. There are of course bird-watching opportunities, plenty of places to mountain bike and lots of chances to try some of the amazing sea-food from this part of Brittany.  At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
