 An impeccably designed treasure trove, Villa Zelie draws inspiration from Javanese houses and ‘gladak’ houses to create a villa that is a true work of art. With joglo roofed individual pavilions embellished with handcrafted furniture and statement decorations, the renowned Parisian designer has ensured this villa will dazzle every guest.
Enter through the koi ponds that frame the doorway, among lotus ponds fringed with tall padi-padi grass below the walkways. The stone steps twinkle with star-like lights from dusk till dawn. A shimmering pool dotted with spiritual figurines runs through the middle of a terraced garden with swaying trees on all sides. Take a refreshing dip and then relax on the veranda, or hide away in one of the breakout spaces wrapped in lush greenery.
The villa is made up of four pavilions – living, entertainment, dining and the pool. Perfect for families travelling together. A two storey spa bale provides space for in-villa massages and beauty treatments, while the stunning bar has quirky wooden seating with artfully displayed bottles. The living room has gorgeous unfinished wood coffee tables and soft gold sofas to sink into – when you’re in need of some downtime, play movies on the drop-down projector screen.
The master suite has a myriad of wood tones and textures, king size beds with an intricately carved headboard and draped curtains. There are a gorgeous writing desk and an incredibly ornate ceiling – it looks just like a novelist’s hideaway. Champagne cushions add a pop of colour, while statement headdresses add drama. The guest bedrooms are in their own gladak pavilions, and also have king size beds and eclectic lanterns.
Spacious and stunning open-air ensuite bathrooms have vaulted roofs and beautiful panelling. Eye-catching hollowed-out sinks that reach to the floor, while a freestanding bathtub faces out into the greenery.With good food and fun in all directions, tucked away just behind the famous La Laguna beach club on Kayar Pitin beach. Just a two-minute stroll away from Bali’s surf scene, the villa really is in a prime spot in Canggu. There are many yoga studios dotted around the area, why not try out hatha or ashtanga flow at specialist studios for all abilities.
A myriad of beaches with great surf are in the vicinity – the villa is five minutes’ drive from Echo Beach, which has famous nightly beach barbecues. Locals and tourists alike settle down on bean bags at fashionable beach clubs to watch the sunset over the Indian ocean.
Berawa beach has glittering black sand and also has superb surf and body boarding. There’s a lovely family friendly atmosphere and plenty of warungs to stock up on Indonesian snacks for a beach picnic.
Finn’s Recreation Club is very close to the villa and is bursting with activities for the whole family. Discover a water park with thrilling slides popular with kids and adults alike and a state of the art gym where you can book into fitness classes. There’s a boxing arena and an upscale spa – there’s something for everyone here.
Bali Equestrian Centre is a must for horse lovers – whether you’re a keen rider or want a taster riding lesson, this world-class centre has got you covered. Take a beach ride, weaving through the powdery sand, or visit a local village.
Bali is known as the ‘Island of the Gods’ and is home to countless enchanting temples. Magical Pura Petitenget embodies Balinese spirituality and is a significant link in the series of temples along Bali’s west coast between Pura Uluwatu and Pura Tanah Lot. The temple has twelve shrines and an impressive dragon staircase that leads to an expansive courtyard. Every evening, there are temple ceremonies on the beach and traditional dance displays.
A great street to explore nearby is Jalan Pantai Batubolong, an up and coming enclave of spas and boutiques, cosy cafes and hip bars. Around Canggu, indulge in a soothing, traditional Balinese massage at a fancy spa, and on Sundays, head to La Laguna gypsy market for organic and eco-friendly products and traditional handicrafts, to the soundtrack of live music.
Glittering Seminyak is also a short drive away. A playground for those who enjoy the finer things in life,  Seminyak beach has an irresistible buzz and is full of beach clubs and fancy spas where you can spend a day getting pampered. There are also countless fashionable boutiques where you can spend a leisurely afternoon rummaging through antique treasures and trinkets to take home. For serious bargain hunters, visit the markets in Denpasar to pick up anything from batik fabric to basket bags.
