Wake up to the sound of the Indian ocean lapping the dramatic volcanic shore and go for hikes around the quiet coastal village of Seseh, where the villa is situated.
Seseh itself is a charming village that has a strong sense of community and has retained its rural charm over the years. The locals greet tourists with curiosity and a smile and offer an insight into traditional life undisturbed for generations. Take a bicycle ride through the quiet country lanes bordered by green rice fields and witness temple ceremonies taking place.
Another lovely place to cycle around is the evergreen rice paddies of Canggu that stretch as far as the eye can see. Take a trip down the Shortcut, which is a scenic path through the plantations. Just be careful when you move to the side to let others pass, or you might end up in the locals’ book of falls!
Canggu, with its enclave of spas and boutiques, cosy cafes and hip bars is a lovely place to explore. Indulge in a soothing, traditional Balinese massage at a fancy spa, and on Sundays, head to La Laguna gypsy market for organic and eco-friendly products and traditional handicrafts, to the soundtrack of live music. A special place to practise yoga nearby is Desa Seni, an eco-friendly resort that celebrates Indonesian culture and art. Locally, pick up some hand decorated pottery at Tanteri Ceramics, a family business with a gallery and a small shop.
Pura Tanah Lot is also a popular spot for sunset as it’s such a picturesque place to watch the ocean turn to glittering gold. It’s just 9km from the villa. To truly observe the power of the sea temple, visit early in the morning where you can witness a local offering ceremony. If you’re lucky, your holiday might coincide with a festival, where Balinese Hindus visit the temples in a procession wearing ceremonial dress.
A beach day is always a winner in Bali. Seseh is the stunning beach that borders the villa, but the island is packed full of beautiful beaches including Echo and Batu Bolong. Bali’s beaches draw surfers from around the world due to the warm seas, year-round surf and excellent reef breaks. Learn to surf in three days on a specially designed masterclass – you’ll be ready to hang ten on Bali’s world-class breaks in no time! Echo beach is popular with locals and tourists alike for a sundowner, while Batu Bolong has bewitching black sand.
A great place for a day trip is Tabanan. Visit the Jutilwah rice terraces at the foot of Mount Batakuru and enjoy the sweeping vistas of lush greenery as you stroll through the fields that was a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site candidate. Sitting at 850m above sea level, the panoramic views are to die for. Expansive tea plantations dot the landscape – why not take a tour, learn about how it’s produced and of course sample a range of delicious teas.
