Tenuta Perugina Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
Set in a little hamlet on a beautiful estate, Tenuta Perugina sleeps up to 10 guests across two stone houses, which can be rented separately or together. Lovingly restored in recent years, these characterful casas date back to the 17th century and feature terracotta flooring and elegant yet rustic furnishings to allow guests to immerse themselves in the charmingly traditional surroundings.
Step through the veranda into the 3-bedroom Casa I and relax in the living room by the open fireplace or gaze at the outstanding views through the panoramic window. The wood-beamed kitchen is a delight with its delicate tiles and pretty table for delicious Umbrian fare whilst upstairs there are three cosy double bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of them en-suite.
The wisteria-clad Casa II, formerly the stables, also exudes charm with its open-plan living-dining room and kitchenette as well as a double bedroom with the prettiest of little balconies. Upstairs, on an open mezzanine level above the living area, is a second double bed allowing this casa to sleep up to four guests.
Gather together for al-fresco meals on one of the terraces and swim in the sparkling pool whilst soaking up the glorious views of the valley around you.
This setting is just perfect for walking, mountain biking and horse-riding. When you feel like exploring a little further, one of Italy’s prettiest villages is just 7km away. A relatively undiscovered gem of Umbria, wander around the steep flower-filled lanes of this medieval hilltop village and find a wonderful osteria serving regional food such as truffles, pulses, porchetta, cheese, berries – all accompanied by good local wine.
Other Umbrian jewels include Gubbio, Città di Castello, Assisi and Perugia or cross over the border into southern Tuscany and head to Cortona or Arezzo, just over an hour away. That’s if you can bring yourself to leave the tranquil ambience of this rural paradise. Set in the province of Perugia in a wild Umbrian valley, just 7km from one of Italy’s prettiest villages, Tenuta Perugina enjoys a rural location surrounded by a vast estate of 152 hectares.
This is an ideal setting for walking, hiking and cycling – explore using the estate’s four mountain bikes and find horse-riding within a short drive.
The local village is a true gem of Umbria and is relatively undiscovered compared to other more famous villages and towns across the region. In a hilltop setting, this village is full of charm as you will discover when wandering around the steep lanes with flower-filled balconies and beautiful houses. There is a handful of restaurants, or osterie, serving typical Umbrian fare – this area is known for its mushrooms and truffles, pulses, porchetta, berries, cheeses and even wild asparagus that grows in the woodland. Of course, accompanied by Umbrian wine!
Pick up all the groceries you will need at the larger supermarkets in Umbertide (12km) and take time to explore this historic town with its pretty squares, outdoor cafes and good restaurants. Look out for all sorts of festivities and events taking place across the year.
The tiny village of Gubbio is another Umbrian jewel with car-free medieval lanes, a magnificent grand piazza and a very old-fashioned funivia, a chair-lift that takes you up to Basilica di Sant’Ubaldo with the most spectacular views.
The striking Palazzo del Podestà in Citta di Castello is yet another great highlight of Umbria, just one of the many grand buildings in this fascinating town. Art-lovers must visit the gallery, home to many Umbrian masterpieces, followed by a hearty Umbrian lunch in a characterful osteria.
The lovely city of Perugia is also worthy of a day out, an exquisite place full of history and charm with a student vibe – Perugia is home to one of Italy’s oldest universities. Assisi is another magical town with its historic sights and stunning surroundings.
Also around an hour away, Lake Trasimeno offers beautiful scenery and plenty of outdoor activities such as horse-riding, walking, mountain biking and watersports. Boat trips depart from Passignano sul Trasimeno out to one of the islands or you can rent your own little boat to potter around the lake.
Keen explorers can also cross over the border into southern Tuscany to perhaps visit the great city of Arezzo with its stunning cathedral and Piero della Francesca frescos, or head to the idyllic hilltop town of Cortona, made especially famous in Frances Mayes’ novel and film ‘Under The Tuscan Sun’.
