The Area Situated in the Haute-Savoie region of France, Chamonix sits directly under Mont Blanc which at 4810m is the highest mountain in western Europe. Bordering both Italy and Switzerland, the Chamonix valley is made up of several distinct villages including Les Houches, Servoz, Les Bossons, Les Praz, Les Tines, Argentières and Le Tour all offering spectacular scenery, a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities as well as excellent restaurants and nightlife.
Les Houches itself, is a bustling village just 10 minutes from Chamonix main town. It offers fabulous skiing with tree lined runs, which are perfect on blue sky day, but also great for low light skiing. The famous Kandahar world cup run is just a chair lift away. The mountain restaurants in Les Houches ski area are arguably some of the best on the mountain. We are very happy to recommend and book your lunch time eaterie for you. For the Skier The village of Les Houches sits at the entrance to the Chamonix valley and has its own ski area which can be skied on its own or together with the other ski areas in the valley using the Mont-Blanc Unlimited ski pass. Chamonix itself is a mecca for both Winter and Summer sports and was the site for the inaugural Winter Olympic Games in 1924.
With five main ski areas – Brévent, Flegère, Vallorcine Domaine de Balme, Argentière Grands Montets and Saint Gervais Les Houches as well as a beginners area in the centre of town, there is an endless variety of both on and off-piste skiing and boarding to suit all ages and abilities. There is also the world renowned Vallée Blanche run which at 18km long offers 4 seperate descents along the Mer de Glace glacier from the top of the Aigulle du Midi (3842km) to the top of the Montenvers rack railway (1913km) or, if the snow conditions are favourable, all the way back to Chamonix town centre. Should you opt for the Mont-Blanc Unlimited ski pass option, a weekly pass also grants access to Courmayeur in the Aosta Valley, Verbier in the 4 Valleys and the Megève ski resort so there is ample choice when it comes to deciding where to ski.
For Non skiers If skiing or boarding on the mountain is not for you, there are numerous other activities to keep you busy during your stay. These include cross country skiing, glacier walking, ice skating, snowshoeing, paragliding, sledging, husky sledding, the alpine luge, indoor bowling and, of course, the excellent shopping that the town provides. A definite must is a trip by cable car to to the Aiguille du Midi (3842m), the starting point for the world famous 18km Vallée Blanche glacier run and the site of the newly opened Musée de l’Alpinisme and with breathtaking views across the mountain ranges into Italy and Switzerland.
If you need any assistance in organising alternative activities during your stay with us then please let us know and we’ll be happy to arrange things for you. Alternatively, you can just push back and relax in this wonderful environment and take some time for yourself to unwind and enjoy some well earned down time from the daily grind.
