Villa Herminia Spain
Holiday Home Rental Description
A marvellous gem of a cottage, hidden away in the rolling foothills of the Sierra Almijara National Park, Villa Herminia is the ideal home for a couple in search of a tranquil stay on the Costa del Sol!
A beautiful, winding lane brings you from the astonishingly attractive town of Fragiliana to the wonderful entrance of this vibrant country home. Entering though the front door you are greeted by a charming living room, complete with a cosy set of sofas and chairs around the open fire and in front of the Satellite TV, creating the perfect space for a relaxing night in after a busy day of exploring the incredible surroundings.
A lovely dining table adjoins the living room, where you can enjoy a refreshing, Mediterranean meal with a cool breeze blowing in from the garden. A modern, fully-equipped kitchen, with an electric hob, oven, microwave, filtered water tap and even a larder is to one side of the living area, and has everything you need to rustle up a meal.
The enchanting bedroom, with a double bed and fabulous ensuite bathroom completes the interior facilities. The room is incredibly bright, spacious and thoroughly charming, with a small bookshelf full of local literature and great holiday-reads, beautiful artwork and a cosy atmosphere, there’s even an electric blanket and heater to ensure your total comfort. The ensuite bathroom has a bathtub and shower, a vanity area and beautiful décor. Large windows allow the whole villa to be filled with natural light and a refreshing breeze, while the delicate tones of blue and white create a calming, seaside ambiance.
It is in the vast private garden that the real tranquillity of the home becomes clear. A spacious veranda, with a casual seating area and small dining table, stretches across the front of the house, and with magnificent views of the panoramic landscape, is the ideal place to enjoy a glass of wine in the late afternoon sun, or a morning coffee in the fresh air! In the main part of the garden there is a huge private pool tucked away under colourful trees and surrounded by delicate flowers, as well as a pair of sun loungers where you can laze in the heat of the day. A beautiful lawn stretches between the pool and the main entrance. Elegant plant-pots, fruit-trees and flowers adorn the lawn. Villa Herminia is located in the hamlet of La Molineta on the outskirts of Frigiliana, a charming village once voted the most beautiful in all of Andalucía – and with its winding cobblestone streets, pristine whitewashed houses topped with terracotta Roman tiles and healthy flower pots adorning every windowsill, it’s no wonder why! Historic buildings and sites of Muslim and Christian origin are strewn throughout the cobbled streets, evidence of a deeply multicultural history. And sitting just on the edge of the Sierra Almijara National Park, the surrounding landscape is sublime: thriving acres of avocado orchards and olive trees are nestled among luscious rolling hills and winding rivers as they slope towards the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea. Yet in the quiet tranquillity, Frigiliana still manages to offer an array of restaurants, services and shops for those who prefer to travel on foot. In the nearby town of Nerja, just a ten-minute drive away, you can enjoy fiestas and concerts, learn flamenco dancing or pick up some of the local wares at one of the many markets or boutique shops. Malaga, the nearest city at less than an hour away, is the largest city on the Costa del Sol and historically and culturally incredibly rich, putting ever more activities and amenities at your fingertips. As the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, the city is of course brimming with museums and art galleries, set among a beautiful cityscape of castles, cathedrals and theatres. The Costa del Sol itself is largely peaceful and quiet, as although there is a large amount of tourism, largely for the fantastic beaches and warm climate (the average water temperature year-round is 18°C!), the tourists tend to stick to the much more developed south-western part. The region of Andalucía is a diverse one both culturally and in the landscape, where picturesque beaches, ancient cities and deserts meet the incredible Sierra Nevada mountain range, which includes both the most southerly ski resort in Europe and the highest point of continental Europe!
