The impeccably maintained gardens are designed for effortless outdoor living, comprising green lawns, framed with plant pots with vividly coloured flowers. With a poolside terrace and shaded dining and lounging veranda with elegant parasol, this space sets the scene for stylish outdoor living: perhaps an evening barbecue in the balmy night air or a local style breakfast after a refreshing morning swim in the sparkling private pool.
The interiors at Villa Edvin are graciously finessed with simple yet charming style. Finished in a neutral palette, the living space has an open fireplace and direct terrace access. A crisp, white-toned kitchen-dining room makes for effortless self-catering and lively group meals. Filled with natural light at every turn, this home has abundant space for the group to spread out, complete with a piano and reading corner.
Some of the bedrooms enjoy access to the first-floor balcony, which runs the length of the building, offering a tranquil spot for morning coffee and beautiful views. Known unofficially as the “happy island,” Rab can be reached by ferry which connects the island with the mainland port of Stinica.
The former fisherman village of Kampor (6km distance from Villa Edvin) is surrounded by the beautiful Dundo forest reservation and is known for its fragrant forest backed beaches and sparkling clear waters. The Kalifront forest in the Dundo reserve is known for its oak trees and is a protected park.
Among the top picks for beaches in the region are Mel, known for its fine sand, sunset views and hiking and biking trails. Suha Punta beach is another beauty in the region, while old town Rab is a history-rich town. The town is recognisable by the four church towers that rise above it – bell tower of the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – the cathedral, the bell tower of the church of St. John the Evangelist, the belfry of the church of St. Andrew the Apostle and the bell tower of the church of St. Justine.
When in Rab, visitors can enjoy sampling the island’s famous cake, traditionally baked in the shape of a spiral, its main ingredients are almonds and maraschino liqueur. As legend has it, this cake was first served in 1177 to Pope Alexander III when he consecrated the Assumption Cathedral in Rab.
The largest and best known sandy beach on the island of Rab is in Lopar, known as Rajska or “paradise beach.” It offers almost 2 kilometres of blue flag status beach facilities; with volleyball, parasailing and beachside bars there’s plenty on offer.
Taking a hike up the Kamenjak (the highest point on the Rab Island) to the summit at 408 metres above sea level will offer the most sublime views at the island. The restaurant at the top is known for its home-made cheese, pasticada (Dalmatian beef stew cooked in a special sauce) and home-made bread.
Colourful “fisherman’s nights” are held in Rab during the summer season; they offer a chance to enjoy freshly caught fish, local wines and music in a relaxed, beachside atmosphere.
