Clad in the famous Brac stone, the Villa Nadezda is a picture of Mediterranean prettiness, with its stone clad walls, shuttered windows and a garden filled with trees and plants to create a lush oasis. Inside, the villa is calm and welcoming, with a cool, tiled floor and fresh whitewashed walls. The downstairs living area has a neat kitchen where guests can rustle up a salad, along with a comfy sofa for relaxing, and a dining table where guests can enjoy a meal in the cool should they wish. Upstairs guests will find the two simply furnished bedrooms – one double and one king-size – both of which have an immaculate en-suite bathroom and glorious views of the sea.

The island of Brac is located just 4 miles off the Dalmatian coast in the Adriatic Sea. Around 30 miles wide at its widest tip, the island’s landscape is largely green, with olive trees and Aleppo pines dotting the landscape, but is also relatively rocky and highly regarded for its white stone which has been used in construction since Roman times. The highest point is Vidova Gora mountain, which at nearly 800 metres offers stunning views of the coast and surrounding islands.
Bol is the main tourist resort on Brac and is famous for its unique beach, Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape) which stretches out from a corner of coastline into the sea. This unique formation means the top of the beach moves with the tides and is constantly changing. Edged by pine trees, and with the crystal-clear water on both sides, it is a truly remarkable spot. An attractive promenade shaded by pine trees meanders from the beach to the town centre. Stop off for a drink in the café amongst the trees and admire the beautiful white Brac stone sculptures that are dotted along the route. The old town of Bol is a charming place, with winding streets and old houses covered with geraniums at every turn.
The island’s capital, Supetar, is a pretty medieval town with an attractive harbour where you can enjoy a drink and watch the boats. Pay a visit to the Ivan Rendic gallery where you can admire the superb sculptures by this artist who was born here in 1939. Further examples of his work can be found in the town’s cemetery, where you may also stumble on the remains of the Roman villa on the same site.
Being so close to the mainland means it is easy to take a day trip to the fascinating city of Split. Catch the catamaran from Supetar and you will be in the city in just 30 minutes. Take time to explore the superb UNESCO site of Diocletian’s Palace and enjoy a meal on the Riva, Split’s glamorous waterfront promenade, before returning back to Brac for the evening.
