Villa Quarra Croatia
Holiday Home Rental Description
On the island of Hvar, surrounded by the Mediterranean scents of lavender and rosemary, you’ll find the most charming stone villa with glorious sea-views from its swimming pool. Here you can totally unwind in the rural idyll knowing that the beautiful island is yours to discover.
Based on a vast estate of lavender fields, cypress, fig and olive trees the stone house was originally used as a place of respite for the workers in the surrounding fields, either to escape the hot sun or warm themselves by the fire. Built at the beginning of the 20th century using the same grey stone as the nearby village of Humac, it sits peacefully amongst stunning natural surroundings where olive oil, herbs and spices have been cultivated for years.
The interiors are utterly charming with a mixture of modern and antique furnishings. You’ll feel homely in the spacious living area and the kitchen has everything you need as well as a fantastic barbecue in the courtyard. The pretty bedrooms are individual in style with traditional features such as exposed stone walls and wood beamed ceilings; two of the en-suite rooms are on the first floor with two more just across from the villa along a stone path. You will be well looked after here with daily house-keeping and the option to hire a private chef for part of your stay.
The outside grounds will delight with the glorious swimming pool with mesmerising sea-views and stone paths leading to inviting lounge areas and the al-fresco dining terrace. Play tennis, basketball or a game of bocce or simply lounge in the sun with a glass of chilled local wine. There’s no surprise that cycling, hiking and horse-riding opportunities are also nearby.
The 13th century village of Humac (3km) is a few minutes by car, a captivating hamlet without electricity where you can dine by candlelight in the local konoba. The beaches of Zavala (7km) are simply stunning plus there are restaurants and watersports or head north to the particularly family-friendly vibe in Jelsa (14km) with more wonderful coastline.
Villa Quarra offers comfort, relaxation and a strong sense of history in the tranquil surroundings of the interior of this striking island. Villa Quarra is located in a 30,000m2 estate of lavender fields with rosemary, fig and olive trees in an absolute rural idyll. Despite being in the relatively undiscovered interior of the island, it’s only fifteen minutes from the coast and there are fabulous sea-views. The villa itself offers activities such as tennis, basket ball and bocce plus there are jogging, walking, horse-riding and cycling possibilities nearby.
The nearest village is Humac (3km), a sixteeth century hamlet without electricity set upon a hilltop on this remote and beautiful part of the island. Here you will find a restaurant that serves by candle-light with all food cooked on the open-fire. Booking in advance is essential, especially in the summer months.
Just further south you will find Zavala (7km) with a further choice of restaurants serving excellent local cuisine, beautiful pebble beaches with crystal clear waters and a range of watersports. From here you can take a boat trip to the small and tranquil island of Sćedro from the little harbour. Drive a little further to the abandoned village of Gromin Dolac for more stunning beaches.
Heading north to Jelsa (14km), you can enjoy fresh fish and local wine in a decent choice of tavernas and restaurants plus a supermarket and further facilities. It is a great base for exploring this part of the island. You can walk or cycle through the dense pine forests, discover pretty beaches and coves or take boat excursions a little further afield. There are numerous walking tours that start from Jelsa and various trekking paths across the island.
The island of Hvar is yours to discover, whether it is wine-tasting in local vineyards, kayaking at sun-set along the coast, cycling across the countryside or exploring the villages and towns on the island. Stari-Grad (20km), one of the main ports for arrivals from Split, was founded by the Greeks in 400 BC and is the oldest settlement on the island. Nearby you will find Stari Grad Plain, a cultural landscape dating back from the Greeks in the 4th century BC, now a UNESCO heritage site. Or head to the glitz and glamour of Hvar Town (42km) which has recently gained a reputation as one of Croatia’s trendiest destinations. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
