Located in the cosmopolitan city of Zadar on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, an area famous for its beautiful Roman and Venetian ruins, is Villa Tommi, an incredibly stylish and modern 4 bedroom property that sleeps up to 8 guests. Villa Tommi is three floors of stunning modern architectural design, with an exterior as breathtaking as inside. Guests here will be impressed by the private walled garden area which features a well-tended lawn area, patio with beautiful trees and shrubs, and a canopied outdoor living space which is complete with plush cream seating and trendy hanging egg-chairs – the perfect place to enjoy an evening with a glass of wine as the sun goes down and the garden and pool lights come on. The pool is, of course, a highlight of the garden area, and is surrounded by plenty of sun loungers, ensuring there is somewhere to recline after taking a cooling dip.
The inside of the property oozes the same class and style as the outside, with plenty of calming neutral tones of cream and white which contribute to a tranquil atmosphere. The first floor of Villa Tommi is open plan and incorporates the living, dining and kitchen areas. Incredibly spacious, the villa’s large windows and bare wood floors give a light and airy feel, and the soft cream sofas and solid wooden furniture offer a flavour of country cottage chic with a modern edge. Everywhere you turn are stylish features, from the mosaic-edged mirrors and modern artworks to the sumptuous leather dining chairs and sprays of exposed brickwork in the kitchen area. The kitchen is no less contemporary in style and is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, glossy white units and breakfast bar, as well as all the modern amenities you would expect alongside plenty of storage and food preparation spaces. There is a large open wood-burning fire in this area, nestled into the exposed brickwork that adds an authentic rustic touch.
The modern styling and neutral colour theme continue in the bedrooms, which are located on both the first and ground floor and consist of 3 doubles and one twin room. The rooms are all spacious and light, with crisp white linens and accents throughout of soft grey, cream and taupe. Furniture is solid wood in white or neutral shades and offers guests plenty of storage space, and the lighting fixtures and wall-mounted artworks add warmth in tones of brown and gold. The bathrooms are equipped with large walk-in shower cubicles, large mirrors and modern stylish basins. The washer and dryer can be found in the largest of the bathrooms for your convenience.
The basement level of Villa Tommi is a unique space; a colourful entertainment room featuring a large flat-screen TV and games console. There is a plush bright green sofa on which to relax, and colourful patterned rug, adding to a cheery fun vibe. For those who are more active, the basement area also houses modern gym equipment, perfect for those who want to be able to continue their daily workouts while away. The city of Zadar is a region rich in history and natural beauty, most notably its famous sunsets which need to be seen to be believed. In the heart of the city visitors can visit the cafes situated beneath the Venetian-era bell tower of St. Anastasia’s Cathedral, and marvel at the Roman columns, pediments and sarcophagi left scattered from the earthquake that dismantled the city in the 6th century. The city’s beaches are clean and easily accessible, though are predominantly narrow with shingle, not sand. The waters are clear and the views spectacular, which more than makes up for it, and there are several beachside cafes and restaurants to enjoy.
While you are in Zadar a visit to the ‘Monument to the Sun’ is a must. Created by artist Nikola Basic and located on the waterfront, the monument is a 22-metre disc, representing the sun, that soaks up solar rays all day only to dazzle visitors with them in the form of coloured patterns as night falls. There are also smaller discs representing the planets of the solar system, all of which radiate their own shimmering glow. The adjacent art installation, ‘Sea Organ’, is another famous attraction of the area. Formed by cleverly cutting steps into a section of the waterfront promenade, these underwater pipes produce musical notes when filled with water, creating a haunting harmonica effect.
Zadar is ideally located for those who wish to visit a sandy beach, a rare thing in Croatia. A short ferry ride away is Saharun, considered one of the country’s best beaches.
