Just north of the Dordogne, set in vast grounds surrounded by meadows and woodland, Manoir D’Or is a characterful stone house in a wonderful setting near to some of the region’s most beautiful sights.
In a little rural farming hamlet, on the road to nearby St Marcel du Perigord, you drive up your own private lane through the woods to this charming house. The owners have restored it beautifully with so many traditional features alongside modern comforts. The warm and inviting living room has a wood-burning stove for cooler evenings or open the French doors to the pool terrace on long summery days. After you have picked up some wonderful local produce in one of the local markets, the kitchen is a lovely place to prepare a feast to serve in the sweet dining room or outside by the pool.
The two en-suite doubles downstairs have exposed brickwork and French windows leading to the pool or gardens whilst upstairs the spacious bedrooms have impressive wooden beams across the sloping ceilings. This is a welcoming and homely place with a true French ambience in a lovely rural environment.
The living and dining space all have French doors leading to the glorious swimming pool terrace where you can spend the day lazing in the sun, having long leisurely lunches and cooling down in the calming pool. There are some grassy areas around the house for kids to play in and surrounding the house are vast grounds and restful scenery.
This is a great location near both the Vézère and Dordogne rivers, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the rivers and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. Sainte-Alvère is just over ten minutes drive away with its speciality shops, restaurants and great weekly market on a Monday or head south to lovely Lalinde on the Dordogne with more great restaurants, shops and a Thursday morning market.
Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the nearby city of Périgueux, heading east to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, all within easy reach. Not forgetting the beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins.
That said, if you are just looking for a wonderful place to relax in a private setting, Manoir D’Or offers charm and a warm ambience for guests who appreciate its rural surroundings. The Dordogne is known as the valley of 1000 chateaux with endless pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, local markets and spectacular valleys and rivers. The Dordogne river offers great kayaking, canoeing and unparalleled views of the countryside.
Le Manoir D’Or is just off a small road leading to St Marcel du Perigord (3km) in a rural farming hamlet surrounded by private grounds. In under fifteen minutes by car is the charming village of Sainte-Alvère with its weekly market on a Monday, some speciality shops, restaurants, pharmacy and a bar. Heading south, Lalinde (13km) on the Dordogne river is the nearest town with a supermarket, pretty shops, excellent restaurants and a fantastic market on a Thursday morning.

Just to the south is beautiful Limeuil, where the Vézère meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the delightful village. The pretty Dordogne villages of Tremolat, with its Michelin starred restaurant, is also within a short drive and an enchanting place to visit.
The Dordogne region hosts a wealth of beautiful villages and towns, many of them classed as France’s Plus Beaux Villages such as glorious Monpazier, a bastide town dating back to the 13th century. To the north you have the sophisticated small city of Périgueux, famous for its amazing black truffles and to the east should visit Sarlat with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac to the west with its medieval architecture, narrow streets of boutiques and great restaurants as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins.
Other magical day trips include the Lascaux caves, just outside Montignac or head to La Roque Gageac, Château de Beynac or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle for a remarkable day out in the Dordogne.
The whole region is a true haven for nature and sport lovers alike offering a wide array of outdoor activities, from horse-back riding and a nearby pony club to tennis, mountain-biking, golfing and watersports, not to mention the number of hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. Children will love the nearby waterparks, visiting the Aquarium du Perigord Noir and Jungle Golf in Le Bugue, exploring prehistoric caves and historic castles or even a magnificent hot air balloon ride across the stunning region.
