Maison Medievale France
Holiday Home Rental Description
This characterful 18th century Périgourdine style home is both historic and contemporary, close to the Dordogne river and not far from the market towns of Saint Cyprien and Le Bugue.
The sensitive renovations at Maison Medievale have created a fascinating combination of the traditional and modern. The sleek kitchen happily shares space with the rustic stone walled dining area and the new wooden staircase curves upwards to the promise of more comfort and charm in the upstairs bedrooms with their large shower room, original wooden beams and pretty turreted windows.
More beams and a stone fireplace welcome you into the living area – it will be hard to decide where to take your meals when the interior so easily reveals the pleasures of the outdoors, such as the covered dining area and summer kitchen at the rear of the house and the wide porticoed terrace running alongside the front. Outside lighting guarantees a romantic atmosphere for evening al fresco dining in the spacious gardens or by the pool.
The Dordogne is a very special place to visit, characterised by its fairy tale châteaux, exquisite medieval villages, prehistoric cave drawings as well as the wonders of its two rivers. It is synonymous with some of the most acclaimed food and wine in France – black truffles, foie gras, goat’s cheese and walnuts are on the menu here. For the adventurous there is a range of outdoor activities such as canoeing, riding, tennis, hot air ballooning, hiking, mountain-biking, golfing and fishing.
There are some lovely places nearby – call into medieval Belvès “the town of seven bell towers”, designated as one of the most beautiful villages in France or to peaceful Saint-Chamassy with its many castles and hiking trails in deep forests. Limeuil is yet another exquisite cobble stoned village on the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers with its own swimming beach.
Take a day trip to one of the famous towns and cities of Le Périgord Noir – visit the famous Maison de Vins in Bergerac, the Vesunna Museum in Périgueux or be astounded by the medieval marvels of Monpazier.Maison Medievale is in a little hamlet, just under a 5-minute drive from a small village with a handful of shops and a couple of restaurants, very close to the Dordogne river.
A supermarket and a selection of other shops can be found in nearby Siorac En Perigord, a short drive away, whilst there are further facilities in the nearby market towns of Saint Cyprien (8km) and Le Bugue (13km) on the banks of the Vézère.
There are many exquisite villages and towns in this wonderful part of France. Don’t miss nearby medieval Belvès, “the town of seven bell towers”, designated as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Also, head to the peaceful village of Saint-Chamassy which has many castles and fortified houses with views across both rivers as well as hiking trails in its dense forests.
Limeuil, about a 10-minute drive away, is another one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ with ancient cobbled streets winding upwards past lovely houses and gardens. This picture postcard village lies on the confluence of both the Vézère and Dordogne and its beach is an idyllic spot for swimming.
Explore eastwards along the wonderful Dordogne river to reach Domme, half an hour away, yet another delightful village, perching high over the water with a network of caves beneath the main square. For more prehistoric treats visit the caves and drawings at Les-Eyzies in the Vézère valley and the famous Lascaux caves in Montignac.
Don’t forget to take a day trip to one of the famous towns and cities which boundary the region of Périgord. Visit the famous Maison de Vins in Bergerac, the Vesunna Museum in Périgueux or be astounded by the medieval marvels of Monpazier, all within an hours drive or less.
The Dordogne offers so many outdoor activities such as riding, tennis, hiking, biking, golfing, hot air ballooning and fishing.
