Villa Spilia Greece
Holiday Home Rental Description
The delightful Villa Spilia is a cosy little pad for small families in the atmospheric village of Spilia. It is painted in a warm, faded tangerine colour and offers privacy, modern space and a lovely location to explore the west of Crete. Spilia is a serene, pretty spot, immersed in nature in the centre of a lush green valley and surrounded by olive groves and citrus orchards. It is ideal for those that enjoy walking, mountain biking and swimming at the endless beautiful beaches in this area. Two of the favourite beaches of Crete are the mesmerising Balos Beach on the northwestern tip of Crete on the Gramvoussa Cape and Elafonissi Beach on the southwestern tip of Crete, both of which can be reached easily from Villa Spilia. When exploring the area, you will discover centuries-old churches with unique architectural styles, the well-known Cave of Saint John the Hermit in the hills of Marathokefala and the picturesque, imposing Gorge of Deliana. Also within easy reach is the incredibly beautiful Venetian harbour of Chania Town.
Villa Spilia is very well maintained and offers modern open plan living. A comfy corner sofa sits close to a pretty feature fireplace and at the other end of the room is a modern kitchen with a good range of units and appliances. The dining table is between the two spaces. The living space is light and airy with natural light flooding the room through the numerous windows and doors. There is terrace access from the kitchen and lounge area.
This lovely villa offers two delightful bedrooms. Both enjoy dazzling white walls and lovely bright blue colour pops with soft furnishings and linens. One of the bedrooms boasts a double bed and the other twins. If you have extra guests, you are welcome to sleep on the sofa in the living room though this villa is perfect for four guests. There are two bathrooms, both with a bath.
The outside terrace is a delight with a very private swimming pool and sun deck and a shaded terrace for alfresco dining and lounging. The pool area is surrounded by gorgeous wicker fencing and planting, creating a very secluded space where you can enjoy the sunshine and your holiday read on loungers. There are plenty of cheerful touches at Villa Spilia and you will receive a lovely friendly greeting from the Villa Managers. Villa Spilia is located in the tranquil, pretty village of Spilia. It is surrounded by lush olive groves and citrus orchards in countryside between some gorgeous Crete beauty spots. Chania airport is just 20.5 miles away, the delightful Kalamaki 12.4 miles away, Plaka 29.2 miles, Kissamos Port just 7.9 miles, Platanias 7.4 miles and the beautiful Stalos Beach is 9.4 miles away. There are other attractions close by including the stunning Agios Dimintrios Church, the Botanical Park and Gardens of Crete, Limnoupolis, Falasarna, the Franciscan Monastery of Agios Fragkiskos and, of course, Chania and its old town and port which is only just over 16 miles away.
Falasarna Bay consists of five consecutive dazzling, silver-sanded beaches. It is huge as well as gorgeous and has such a dazzling, clear, turquoise blue sea. At the northern end of the beach there are ruins of the ancient Grecoroman city of Falasarna. There are several companies offering watersports including Falassarna Activities. Falasarna Bfoeach is located 59km west of the beautiful Chania city and 17km west of Kissamos, at the western base of the stunning Cape Gramvousa. The beach has been voted as one of the 10 best beaches in Europe in the past. You will probably want to visit this dreamy beach as well as the sensational Balos and Elafonisi beaches which adorn many posters advertising Crete.
Balos Lagoon Beach is absolutely stunning and one of the most photographed beaches in Greece. The lagoon of Balos has silvery white sand and exotic, white, vivid blue and turquoise waters. The sea is very shallow and warm. Beyond the rocks at the boundaries of the lagoon, the water is deeper and ideal for snorkeling. The lagoon and wider area with rare species of flora and fauna are protected under the Natura 2000 programme. Eleonora falcons, shags and cormorants nest in the caves and the area is a shelter for protected monk seal and loggerhead sea turtle. Balos can be reached by car, though be prepared for a bumpy ride or you can take a boat trip to the beach from Kissamos. North of Balos, in Cape Korykon, there are remains of the small Roman town of Agnio with the temple of Apollo and the picturesque chapel of Agios Sostis.
Elafonisi is also a magical place that consists of a shallow lagoon with characteristic white and pink sandy beaches. Visitors can wade out to the island to enter another world. The island is an internationally classified nature reserve and home to more than 100 rare plants including summer flowering sea daffodils that look like white cups. The island is a nature lovers paradise. To the left of the sandbank, windsurfers enjoy the prevailing winds.
Chania Town is incredibly charming and picturesque. It is great fun to wander through the market stalls and stop for a few drinks at the many bars. The Venetian harbour is lined with waterfront restaurants which make this a top-notch evening out. There are some fantastic, atmospheric restaurants, some roof-top and others in the narrow lanes. The sunsets are breathtaking with the Venetian lighthouse a focal point. You can walk along the harbour wall to the lighthouse.
Samaria Gorge is the longest gorge in Europe at 16km which would take roughly 6 hours to pass along the whole gorge. Otherwise you can drive to Chora Sfakion and take a boat to Agia Roumeli and walk at few kilometres at the end of the gorge. The Imbros gorge close by is also very beautiful and takes approximately 2 hours. You can combine this walk with swimming in Fragokastelo beach.
