Set on a hilltop, with wonderful views of the lake, this stunning home is only five minutes by car from the charming towns of Verbania and Pallanzo, nestled in an elegant stretch of the southwestern shores of Lake Maggiore. Key attractions to this area include the magical Borromeo Islands, one of which is the Isola Bella, known for the opulent grandeur featured in the homes and exquisite gardens, the Botanical Gardens at Verbania, and the museums, pretty promenades and lakeside beaches. Water sports on the lake, boat trips, hiking in the hills and pony trekking are all great ways to enjoy the region while taking an evening “passeggiata” in Pallanza, when the sun softens over the lake, against the backdrop of the flower-filled balconies and vibrantly ornate homes, will be about as good as it gets!Villa Arianna is in an elevated spot with stunning views across Italy’s second-largest lake, Lake Maggiore, which is known as being quieter and less tourist-heavy than Como and Garda, while this sumptuous home sits overlooking the Gulf of Borromeo and the jewels of the lake: the Borromeo Islands. The most famous of these is the beautiful Isola Bella, with its incredible palace, gardens and fairy-tale setting, it’s a must-see.
With the buzzing Verbania and the elegant Pallanzo both just a five minute drive away, visitors can sample a slice of local life, from the stunning gardens at Verbania, to the promenade at Pallanzo, to museums, boat trips across the lakes and hiking in the surrounding mountains.
Verbania is known unofficially as “the garden on the lake,” it offers beautiful views, opulent villas and water sports, as well as boat trips to the islands. One of Verbania’s key attraction is its botanical garden with no less than 40 acres of rare plants and stunningly manicured gardens.
Close by Intra is known for its excellent shopping, while Pallanzo features pretty Art Nouveau architecture and there’s an excellent museum in Verbania dedicated to landscapes, the Museo del Paessaggio, that is an excellent choice for rare cloudy days.
Just ten minutes along the lake shores, Ghiffa is known for its unique UNESCO World Heritage Site: The Sacred Mountain of the Most Holy Trinity. This magnificent natural park covers hundreds of acres of unspoilt mountainous terrain, sprinkled with spiritual sanctuaries. Trails lead into the hills and wind through the woods; ideal for hikers and escaping the bustle of the crowds.
Ghiffa has another unusual attraction – the Museo del Cappello (the Hat Museum). Dedicated to the classic felt hat that was once commonplace with local gentlemen necessity, the museum traces the manufacturing history of this former thriving local trade!
From elegant dining in Verbania, stunning walks among peacocks in the hauntingly beautiful Isola Bella, to strolling among the rare plants in botanic gardens to lazing days away on the lakeshore beaches, this region has so much to offer.
