Villa Gambero Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
Extending out directly onto Lake Maggiore in northwest Italy’s Piedmont region which sits at the foot of the Alps, Villa Gambero offers an exclusive stay for lovers of water-side adventures with an appreciation for artsy living.
Those who feel at home in stunning, design-influenced interiors are sure to find their niche as they step inside this contemporary abode. Split across three floors, the charming property is filled with carefully selected objects and furniture, effortlessly encapsulating the cool vibe of a dazzling riverside retreat.
On the ground floor, guests can relax on the plush sofas while admiring the warm colour scheme and curated textiles such as floral rugs and ottomans or curl up in front of the fireplace on balmy evenings with a glass of red wine.
The large architectural staircase leads to the first floor with a bright living room and a sun-flooded terrace equipped with lounge furniture and a dining table, ideal for al-fresco dinners with a view over the lake and lush greenery beneath. The most exclusive bedroom of the two is located on the second floor and offers splendid views from a raised double bed, as well as a walk-in closet, Jacuzzi bathtub and a classic sauna where you can recharge and find peace after a long day spent cruising around the lake.
Step outside to the expansive garden to find a long jetty from where you can embark on lake cruises and jet-ski rides. The lawn also borders a private beach for refreshing morning dips, while the architectural pool mirrors the contemporary feel of the house – complete with a wooden deck, sun loungers and jacuzzi. Right next to it, a shaded pergola overgrown with trailing plants and flowers offers a much-needed escape from the heat, and it’s a great place for hosting barbecue nights and impromptu parties.
The closest town Arona is conveniently around 2.5km away and features a postcard-worthy lakeside promenade buzzing with trattorias, boutiques and hip cafés inviting you for a refreshing aperitif. The closest restaurant is located only a 5-minute drive away, while more restaurants serving both Mediterranean and world-wide cuisine can also be found in the town, and so is a supermarket and the rest of the local amenities that will help to make your stay the best it can be.
Stresa, the most popular town on Lake Maggiore is less than a 20-minute drive away, luring holiday-goers with its regular boat trips to the stunning Borromeo Islands – a group of three small islands and two islets where nature meets art. Each of the five offers a different experience – notably Bella and Madre were transformed into grand, luxurious residences – and are worth a visit.
Those who flock to this picture-perfect Italian lake rarely feel the urge to escape to somewhere busy and crowded, yet if hustle and bustle is what you long for, you’ll be pleased to know that Italy’s capital city, Milan can be reached in one hour by car.
The beauty of Villa Gambero lies in its privileged sense of space, and its verdant lawns melting into the lakeside landscape allow you to truly unwind and let go of the stress and strain of everyday life.
Boasting picturesque scenery, boutique hotels, crystal-clear water and infused with an enchanting appeal, Lake Maggiore located in Italy’s Piedmont region allows you to enjoy northeast Italy’s raw beauty away from the crowds. Sitting at the border with Switzerland, Italy’s second-largest lake is brimming with rugged nature and unspoiled vistas you’ll never get tired of.
The region is well known for its sophisticated cuisine and wines such as Barolo and is surrounded by the Alps from three sides – so the chances are that wherever you stay, you’ll be treated to breath-taking views of the snow-capped mountains.
The same applies to Arona – a small town on the south part of Lake Maggiore famed for its promenade where both locals and tourists like to stroll on warm, sunny days. From here, you can easily explore the entire town, and most precisely its castle ruins and a small Roman-style chapel before spreading out a picnic blanket in the park nearby. Alternatively, get ready to wine and dine in one of the many lake-facing restaurants serving dishes of fresh pasta with white truffles (the region’s delicacy) as well as locally caught fish and the region’s fine wine.
A bit further away, Stresa can be reached in just 20 minutes by car and this resort town is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful archipelago that is Borromeo Islands. However, the town itself is equally well worth exploring and apart from hip food and drink places, it’s also home to landmark buildings such as Villa Pallavicino boasting a lush botanical garden filled with a wealth of fountains and floral arrangements as well as a zoo and Villa Ducale, dating back to 1770 and housing the International Centre for Rosminian Studies.
Those who are not scared of heights and want to explore something unique can head to the Lake Maggiore Funicular – a bucket list ride in a cable car that will take you all the way to the top of Mount Sasso del Ferro from where you can soak up cinematic views over the majestic Alps and their snow-capped peaks.
If you didn’t have enough cruising around and splashing in the indigo blue waters, take a 30-minute road trip to the romantic Lake Orta which countless writers and poets used to call their home. Explore the fantastic bathing spots bordered by wild nature or walk to the peaceful town of Orta San Giulio for a dinner in one of its many rustic trattorias before ending the day with a wander through the narrow, cobbled lanes. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
