Set amidst peaceful countryside, close to the Arrábida Natural Park, Villa Abelia is located on a farm, from where you can take a direct path to the quiet Foz beach.
With accommodation for up to sixteen guests in the main building and further apartment, it’s an excellent choice for a larger group and offers a roof terrace, fourteen acres of gardens and a stunning 10mx5m swimming pool.
A lovely terrace area offers plenty of open space, with seating and dining areas. You have views out to the villa’s private lake and towards the ocean beyond.
The outlook is even better from the roof terrace, with its views to Sintra to the west and the Espichel Cape to the south. The outdoor space also includes a barbecue, plus plenty of parking and a selection of bicycles on which to explore the local area.
Inside the main villa, you have a fully equipped kitchen, a large living and dining room with seating for twelve and direct access to the terrace. The master suite can accommodate up to six, with a double bed, a separate living room with sofa-bed, and an upstairs area with a Chinese canopy bed.
Another large suite features its living area and kitchenette, and there’s a further double and twin bedroom with a shared bathroom. All the bedrooms open out onto the gardens.
There’s a whole lot more to come, with the separate apartment accommodating a further four guests, boasting a double and twin, both with en-suite along with a living area with kitchenette, offering you as much as privacy and independence as you choose.
At around 44km from Lisbon, the Portuguese capital is easily accessible, and the city of Sesimbra is 11km away, famed for its fish markets and spectacular seafood restaurants. Its beach and those of Foz and Praia do Meco are all within a 10-minute drive, making it easy to experience the incredible natural beauty of this region.South of the capital itself, the Lisbon Coast offers up breath-taking scenery and plenty of charm. Forming part of the Setúbal region, Sesimbra provides some of the most beautiful beaches in this corner of Portugal, and while it’s becoming ever-more popular as a visitor destination, it hasn’t lost its character.
Indeed, this may be what’s drawing the more discerning tourists to its shores. Safe, calm and ideal for families, it also offers excellent value – you can enjoy its excellent seafood, or whatever else you may fancy, for much less than you could in more established resorts.
You can enjoy a vast number of outdoor activities in Sesimbra and the surrounding region – surfing, diving, kayaking and mountain biking are popular, and there are several excellent golf courses too, such as Quinta do Peru and Montado.
For those who prefer to sightsee, the heritage of the area’s towns and cities is evident in churches, castles and historic buildings – the Castelo do Sesimbra offers a pleasant sea view (albeit at the end of a pretty steep climb).
For the most spectacular lookout point in the area, head for Cabo Espichel. A lighthouse and monastery sit on the dizzying cliffs, with the expansive Atlantic Ocean ahead, making this a place to go to reflect and be at one with nature – and many make the trip when visiting Lisbon, around one hour’s drive north.
Extending all the way along the coast from Sesimbra to Setúbal, the Arrábida Natural Park only adds to the wonder of the region.
