In an idyllic setting, characterised by river and countryside views, Casa Nyma lies in Ferreira do Zêzere, around 25km from the town of Tomar. Within driving distance of Portugal’s Silver Coast and the dramatic caves of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Nature Park, this 4-bedroom villa provides ample outdoor space, with a large swimming pool and a furnished terrace.

This modern house makes the most of its beautiful surroundings, offering spectacular views through its large lounge windows. You will be looking out over a 12.5m x 7.5m private pool, with a sun terrace offering four loungers. There is also a barbecue, dining space and an outdoor lounge area.

Natural light flows into the living area, which incorporates another dining space with seating for eight. There is a multi-channel TV in various languages, and comfortable sofas around a central fireplace. A modern kitchen has direct access to the outer areas.

All of the bedrooms are located on the same level as the living area. As well as the master bedroom with en suite, you have another double and two twin rooms – these three rooms all have direct access to the outdoor spaces. There is an additional bathroom with a bath and walk-in shower too.

The villa is just 30m away from tennis courts, the use of which is included in the price. All sorts of other activities are available in the local area, including canoeing, fishing and 4×4 driving, and if you just want to relax, you’re just 200m away from a riverside beach. With so much wonderful scenery, Ferreira do Zêzere is also perfect for long walks.

Head into Tomar and you can see the ornate, hilltop convent, Convento de Cristo, a World Heritage site and one of the city’s many notable historical monuments. This attractive city on the River Nabão offers all the amenities you may need, as well as striking sights of all kinds – in addition to its churches, grand town hall and impressive 6km-long aqueduct, look out for a museum dedicated to matches and matchboxes.
A pretty and historic town, Tomar is considered one of the gems of central Portugal. Sitting on the River Nabão, it’s a calm and charming place which will reward you if you are interested in Portuguese history.
Its landmark sight, the Convento de Cristo, was founded by the Knights Templar in the 12th century, and now holds World Heritage status. The highlight is the intricately decorated circular church, the Charola – you will find some stunning Portuguese art inside. Other sites with a connection to the convent are worth a look too; the castle which protects the convent and the lengthy aqueduct which brought water from the springs of Pegões are certainly impressive in their own right.
Tomar isn’t a hub for nightlife, but you will find quite a few restaurants around the city which make for a pleasant evening out. An old atmospheric theatre, the Paraiso, continues to put on live shows and doubles as the city’s cinema. During the day, you can visit numerous places of worship, the pretty Mouchão Park, or the city’s contemporary art museum, at the Núcleo de Arte Contemporânea.
A quirky attraction which is surprisingly fascinating is the Museu Dos Fosforos. Housed in a former monastery, this museum is dedicated to matches and matchboxes and is the largest of its kind in the world. The collection is international too, with the match-related paraphernalia of more than 120 countries showcased.
Tomar is accessible from the coast, with the closest spots around an hour’s drive away. It also offers direct train services to Lisbon, a journey which takes around two hours.
