Casa Maniche Portugal
Holiday Home Rental Description
Situated on the quiet southeast coast of Madeira, surrounded by lush mountains and the azure blue waters of the Atlantic, Casa Maniche is the perfect choice for families or groups of friends looking to get away from it all. And with the pretty town of Calheta just a couple of minutes’ down the road, you will have plenty of amenities and activities right on your doorstep. From whale watching to surfing, paragliding to some beautiful hiking trails, mother nature will keep you well entertained throughout your trip.
Surrounded by beautiful vineyards, overlooking the breath-taking Atlantic Ocean, you’ll love the peaceful energy Casa Maniche exudes. This stylish abode welcomes its surroundings through an amass of glass doors throughout, bathing the spacious interior in glorious sunshine. The vast open-plan living room, sleek and modern in design, encompasses a large sumptuous seating area, elegant dining space and ultra-modern kitchen-breakfast bar, providing an inviting arena for entertaining in.
There are three delightful double bedrooms and three stylish bathrooms in the villa, all finished with classic contemporary design and modern fixtures and fittings. The bedrooms have the spectacular advantage of beautiful sea views as well as access onto an upper terrace, perfect for enjoying a quiet morning coffee with only melodic birdsong for company and the warmth of the Madeiran sunshine on your face. What could be more perfect?
The lower terrace accessed through the living space, is an idyllic spot to enjoy the year-round balmy climate, with stunning panoramic vistas and a fantastic outdoor pool large enough for the whole family to enjoy. There is also space to cook up a Madeiran feast on the impressive brick barbeque before sitting down on the outdoor dining table to eat al fresco late into the evening while you plan your next adventure over a bottle of local wine or two. The picturesque village of Calheta sits in a beautiful bay on the quiet southwest of the Island of Madeira. A popular spot with families due to its lovely man-made sandy beaches and crystal-clear water, where you can partake in many activities including snorkelling, canoeing, surfing, windsurfing and whale watching. You can even try your hand at paragliding just a few minutes’ drive away in Arco do Calheta. The village boasts many historic churches you’ll love to wander through, as well as a modern marina, a great variety of shops and bars, and delicious restaurants offering local delicacies from freshly caught tuna to mouth-watering honey cake.
You will be ideally placed to explore both the north and south of the Island from here. And one day trip you’ll love is to the Island’s vibrant capital of Funchal, just 36km away. Amidst banana plantations and spectacular gardens where flowers bloom all year round in the shelter of the verdant mountains, Funchal is a fantastic destination, relaxed by day and exciting by night. Its picturesque seafront promenade is a great place to amble along, taking in the scenery whilst quenching your thirst in one of its many beachfront bars. From here take the cable car to Monte, where you can visit the world-renowned Monte Palace Tropical Gardens. To get back to the Old Town don’t miss the heart-pumping traditional wicker toboggan run. Once in the old town, be sure to visit some of the fabulous restaurants serving some exquisite tapas and heavenly desserts such as passion fruit pudding. Football fans will also enjoy a visit to a museum in honour of Madeira’s best loved son Cristiano Ronaldo here.
The beautiful landscape of this corner of the Island is home to three stunning levada trails – some of the 2,092 kilometres of narrow stone irrigation channels that criss-cross Madeira’s lush mountainous countryside into the Laurisilva forest. Of varying abilities and offering breath-taking views from panoramic vistas to hidden waterfalls, these glorious hiking routes ensure you are fully immersed in the abundance of nature that surrounds you.
If it’s the more dynamic activities you’re after, perhaps make the most of these wonderful terrains by partaking in one of the many mountain-bike trails that plunge and ascend this beautiful landscape, or throw yourself into some adrenaline-pumping canyoning, which will have you shooting over cascades and abseiling down beautiful waterfalls. Or for the more serene, perhaps a wine tasting tour on the south coast of the Island is the perfect way to spend your time. Whatever your itinerary, the beautiful Island of Madeira with its year-round sunshine really does have something for everyone.
