Cottage/Gite/Farm, Luxury Villas
| 3 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

Situated overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Arco da Calheta, Villa Maiana provides a fine base for your excursions around the island of Madeira. On the south-western coast, this villa enjoys a warm climate as well as stunning views, with a large terrace and an outdoor pool among its attractions.
This three-bedroom villa is ideal for families and medium-sized groups, accommodating a maximum of six guests. The 10m x 4m salt-water pool enjoys a wonderful ocean outlook and its elevated position gives you a great view over the hillside too. There is plenty of outdoor furniture including sun loungers and seating, and a large, covered dining terrace with a barbecue and outdoor kitchen is perfect for enjoying those warm evenings with food, wine and friends.
The interiors are modern and well-equipped at Villa Maiana, with a light, spacious lounge offering cable television and another dining area, as well as direct access to the terrace. Your kitchen has everything you are likely to need during your stay, including a microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine and fridge freezer.
Three bedrooms feature high-quality beds and furnishings to ensure your nights are as comfortable as the days. There is a room with a King-size bed, one with a double, and a room with twin beds. One en-suite bathroom and a separate bathroom are available to you. Children are welcome, and if you need a cot and high-chair for a particularly young guest, these can be provided on request.
The village of Arco da Calheta is situated in a relatively central location on the island, making it easy to get around, and has some good restaurants of its own. Madeira’s main town, Funchal, is about 25 minutes’ drive away and offers excellent dining, shopping and cultural attractions, as well as beaches, botanical gardens and even cable car rides with wonderful views of the town and the Atlantic Ocean. A charming Portuguese island in the Atlantic, Madeira sits to the west of Morocco and south west of Gibraltar. Wonderfully scenic, the island is rugged and mountainous, making it something of a playground for outdoor pursuits. It is notably good for surfing and diving, and provides some great on-land adventures too. Exploring the routes of its unique levadas, Madeira’s canal-like irrigation channels, is a favourite pastime of visiting walkers.
The capital Funchal is a 20-minute drive from Madeira International Airport, itself located on the eastern coast. The historic Old Town and chilled waterfront make a tempting combo. You can enjoy landmark buildings like the 16th-century cathedral, Sé, known for its impressive wooden ceiling, and a variety of interesting museums. As well as the area’s history, specialist museums cover local crafts like embroidery and wine-making. The atmospheric farmers’ market, or Mercado dos Lavradores, is a must-see – full of vibrant colour, it’s a great photo opportunity, and at its liveliest on a Friday mornings.
Another big attraction in Funchal is the cable car which ascends from the Old Town in the direction of the Monte Palace Tropical Garden and the Botanical Gardens of Madeira. Each of these is well worth the trip, which also delivers some amazing views of the area. When you come back down again, the town’s excellent restaurants and cool oceanfront bars offer plenty of ways to spend the evening.
If you are looking for beach life, you have many of them around the coast to try. While many are pebbly or filled with volcanic black sand, you will find some with golden sand, such as Calheta, where it has been specially imported. The real jewel in the crown is the 9km beach at Porto Santo – you will need to take a ferry across to this island to visit it, but it’s well worth the journey. You will also find a golf course there. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
