Villa Vega Portugal
Holiday Home Rental Description
Around 15 minutes’ drive from Ponta do Sol and 35 minutes from the capital, Funchal, Villa Vega is situated in Arco da Calheta. Enjoying an ocean-view location on Madeira’s southern coast, this 3-bedroom property features an outdoor pool and sun terrace.
Villa Vega is a well-appointed villa with exceptional views. The outdoor space really makes the most of them, with a large pool and adjacent sun deck, a barbecue and furnished balcony terraces. The pool can be heated if required.
You can be sure of enjoying Arco da Calheta’s reliably mild and pleasant climate here, while the island’s sunniest spot, Ponta do Sol, is only a short drive away. The golden sands of Calheta Beach are only five minutes from the villa – this is one of the few beaches of this type on the island.
Directly accessible from the pool area, the lounge is equipped with sofa seating and an attractive dining area with seating for six. Your kitchen has an oven, large fridge freezer, dishwasher and many more essentials, as well as another dining table and chairs.
Your three bedrooms provide accommodation for up to six guests, with a large double bed in the master bedroom which enjoys a wonderful view. The other two bedrooms each feature two single beds. Two attractive bathrooms with bath or shower add to the comfort and convenience. The whole house also benefits from free Wi-Fi.
You will find useful local amenities and several bars and restaurants within a few minutes of the villa, with a larger supermarket about 10 minutes’ drive away. You will be in a great position to explore the natural beauty of Madeira, with many of the highlights easily accessible from Arco da Calheta. Landmarks such as the São Vicente Caves, the Cabo Girão skywalk and the beautiful natural pools of Porto Moniz are 30-50 minutes from Villa Vega.
The island’s mountainous interior is well worth exploring too, along with Funchal. This city is brimming with wonderful gardens, great places to eat and excellent shopping and entertainment. Be sure to take the cable car up to Monte to see the place at its best.
The southern coast of Madeira includes some fine destinations. Working east from Arco da Calheto, you have the calm Madelena do Mar beach, a good place for swimming, and the popular Ponta do Sol area. Apparently, there is more sunshine here than anywhere else on the island.
Also along this route is Câmara de Lobos, and it’s near this village you will find the mighty cliffs of Cabo Girão. A glass skywalk allows the brave to walk over the edge and witness the drop below. It’s quite a sight!
Madeira’s historic capital, Funchal is just a little further on. Be sure to explore the Old Town area which extends down to the waterfront. Among the highlights are the Mercado dos Lavradores, a traditional market which is big on fish and other fresh produce.
Don’t miss out on a cable car ride from the harbour to the hilltop district of Monte. Here, the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens with its Japanese theme, and the Botanical Gardens, are both worth visiting. The views from Monte are amazing, as they are from the cable car. If you so wish, you can make your way down again, at least partly, by taking a 2-man toboggan contraption. Not an experience you have every day, for sure.
When you’re back down on the waterfront, you might wish to take a look at CR7 Museu – a museum dedicated to local legend, Cristiano Ronaldo and his football trophies. The island’s airport is named after him, so you might spot a tribute to him there too.
Another visitor favourite will tell you all you need to know about Madeira’s famous wine. Blandy’s Wine Lodge, on the busy Avenida Arriaga, is the place to go. This city centre attraction offers guided tours with samples provided, and there’s a shop where you can stock up.
Outside Funchal, Madeira has even more to offer, and you will soon discover why it has a reputation as a great hiking spot. It’s a mountainous island with some notable peaks like Pico Ruivo and Pico del Arieiro, but you won’t need to scale the heights to appreciate the stunning countryside. A guided walk along the levadas (irrigation channels) is a popular way to see the island – take a look for an organised tour so you’ll know what you’re taking on.
Up in Porto Moniz, it’s the beautiful natural pools and the volcanic landscape that’s the big draw – it’s well worth a trip to the north-western corner of Madeira to experience them. On a similar theme, the São Vicente Caves are spectacular too. Also in the north, they are around 30km from Arco da Calheta. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
