Nestled within the hills near the town of Moledo and surrounded by orchards and beautiful gardens full of fruit trees, Casa Caminha is a traditional farmhouse restored to provide comfortable, modern accommodation that preserves many original features for plenty of rustic charm.
Tasteful furnishings in natural materials create a sense of welcoming warmth that can be felt throughout the beamed rooms of this two-storey farmhouse. Its idyllic setting lends itself to some magnificent views across lush green landscapes and some of northern Portugal’s most beautiful beaches are just a short distance away.
On the ground floor is a large living room with plenty of comfortable sofas and armchairs and various other pieces of antique furniture that reflect the farmhouse’s history and heritage. A television and a board games table will keep everyone entertained during evenings in. Open the doors to a covered terrace with splendid views over the outside area. Also on this floor is a bright, fully fitted bathroom and two attractive double bedrooms, with one having twin beds.
Upstairs is the where the kitchen is located and includes a range of facilities to make both quick and easy meals, as well as those for more special occasions. One of the villa’s most outstanding rooms is the characterful dining room with stunning open fireplace and a table that seats up to eight people. There’s also a second living room with sea views to enjoy as you unwind and relax in a comfortable chair. An enclosed balcony with seating and a door leading down to an outdoor terrace is another place in which to soak up the views of the garden and beyond. A single bedroom and a master double bedroom both have use of the second bathroom that’s on this floor.
The outside space is stunning and features immaculate lawned gardens, a range of traditional fruit trees and plants and a large swimming pool. Close to the built-in barbecue area is a pool house with a kitchenette, shower and toilet. A covered terrace with table and chairs is the perfect place to start the day with a breakfast of traditional Portuguese pastries or to enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner.Casa Caminha is situated close to Moledo, a popular resort town on the Costa Verde. It has one of the biggest beaches in the north of Portugal and is particularly good for surfing, due to the strong winds in the area. You can find many restaurants on the beach road of Praia de Moledo, with most offering up seafood and fish dishes, as you’d expect from a coastal town. Many other tastes are also catered for, with a pizzeria being very popular with families and several bars that serve burgers and chips.
As well as being able to get involved with a variety of water sports on Praia de Moledo, you can take a boat out to the imposing Ínsua Fort on a small island not far from the beach. Originally used as a place of worship when built in 1392, it played a key role in warfare throughout the centuries and is now a fascinating record of the changes it has undergone.
Caminha is a little further up the coast and has a beautiful town square with a fountain, medieval clock tower and many terrace cafes in which to sit with a coffee and simply watch the world go by. There’s also a regular market where you can pick up items such as local pottery, textiles, food and handicrafts.
