Villa Cattaro Montenegro
Holiday Home Rental Description
An elegant, traditional Montenegrin house with a real air of vintage romance. Just four metres from the sea yet with spacious grounds and plenty of privacy, Villa Cattaro is a tranquil haven for holidaymakers. From the terraces and balconies, you’ll be able to gaze out at the Bay of Boka with a coffee or glass of wine in hand on summer evenings. By night, the lights of the other side of the bay twinkle beautifully.
The architecture of the villa is truly dazzling. It was created in heritage Montenegrin ancient style, using rocks and natural materials in order to harmonise with the environment and be mindful of the elements. Enter the villa through the dramatic walkway, bordered by a lush lawn on one side and a driveway on the other.
Decorative archways with rows of stone frame the enviable, postcard-perfect views, while the walls are built from irregular layers of natural stone, peppered with crimson shutters. The exteriors evoke a sense of a crumbling fortified castle or a luxury farmhouse in the Balkan countryside.
Take a cooling dip in the small but perfectly formed, curved swimming pool, surrounded by greenery dotted with plants. There’s plenty of comfortable seating, parasols and deck chairs for everyone to unwind poolside.
Entering into the retro kitchen is like stepping into a stylish grandmother’s house, equipped with everything you need to make tasty home cooked meals. Reclaimed painted wood cupboards, pastel walls, mosaic tiles and a modern kitchen island make up this delightful space. The living room has feature walls of exposed stonework and luxurious white sofas with elegant curves. There’s a statement dining table with a patterned green tablecloth that the whole family can gather around.
Five bedrooms are spread over two floors with charming, old-style interiors in cream and pastel pink with red accents. Textured walls and fluffy rugs adorn the floor, while watercolour art hangs on the walls. Double beds with carved wooden headboards are decorated with traditional cross-stitched blankets, while retro swirly-patterned trunks provide storage and additional design credentials.
There’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained at Villa Cattoro. For those who love to keep active when they travel, there’s a gym with a treadmill and cross-trainer and a huge amount of space for floor workouts. There’s a sauna for those who wish to pamper themselves, and the living room has a pool table and a dedicated television area. Moments from an enchanting sea called the Boka Bay, the villa is situated in picturesque and romantic surroundings. Encircled by mountains, the bay is also known as the ‘Bride of the Adriatic’ and is a one of a kind geological formation similar to a Scandinavian fjord. A riot of colourful flowers bloom every spring around the jagged coastline, and the bay is dotted with tiny medieval villages, looming cliffs and with bright blue inlets. The area is famous for fresh seafood and incredible sunsets.
You can reach Tivat in ten minutes by car, while the town of Kotor is 4km away. Kotor has retained its traditional Mediterranean character and will take you on a dreamy architectural journey from Romanic to Baroque. The town is UNESCO-listed and has a spectacular walled Old Town, packed with atmospheric churches and palaces from bygone eras. In summer, Kotor hosts a superb summer festival with open air theatre and plenty of opportunities to see local dancing displays and folklore performances.
Thriving, upscale Tivat, which could be mistaken for Monaco, due to the luxury yachts that bob in Porto Montenegro, one of the famous marinas in the world. The town itself is charming and compact, easily walkable and full of cute cafes and lovely restaurants, where you can sample some Montenegrin classics such as Punjene Paprike – stuffed peppers, or gulaš – a hearty stew served with mashed potato. The Naval History Museum – which boasts over 300 maritime exhibits including a submarine – is a must-see for those interested in sailing. In June, Tivat hosts an International Carnival, complete with a parade and samba displays.
Montenegro is home to some world-famous, mesmerising beaches. Known as the Budva Riviera, there are no fewer than 17 named beaches that stretch along the coastline from Jaz to Buljarica. Some great choices for a beach day include Becici beach, where you can go paragliding, and Kamenow, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters and powdery sand. Mogren beach – which is actually two beaches joined by a tunnel – is the closest to the Old Town. This beach was voted the best beach in Europe by Lonely Planet.
Lively Budva town is a great day trip and extremely popular with travellers to Montenegro. Get pleasantly lost in the pedestrian-only Old Town discovering hidden nooks and crannies around the narrow streets and alleyways. There are many boutiques and street stalls to discover here, and several piazzas to enjoy a coffee and people watch. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
