The colourful parasols on the sandy beachfront are wonderful, as are the beach huts and boardwalk. Medieval Honfleur is also close by, such a pretty town on the Seine estuary that inspired the likes of Monet and Boudin.
As well as Le Havre, Bayeux and the D-Day Landing beaches, spend time exploring picturesque villages, trying cheese at local markets and sampling calvados in nearby orchards – just some of the many highlights of this incredible part of Normandy.Between Trouville and Honfleur, in the Calvados department of Normandy, La Maison Normande is set in an elevated position with glorious sea views, only 500m from the sea as the crow flies. Both ferry ports at Le Havre (36km) and Caen-Ouistreham (48km) are within easy reach.
It’s around a 3km drive to a small but delightful seaside village with a grocery store, some shops and a handful of places to eat and drink. This Village Fleuri is such an enchanting place to explore and you will see how its charm has inspired artists over the years. Enjoy the wonderful sea vistas from viewpoints on the edge of the village or wander down to the beautiful beach, mainly sandy with some rocks and a lovely place to spend the day by the sea or an evening as the sun sets.
Keen walkers will also love wilder sections of this coastline where in low tide you can hunt for shellfish amongst the rocks or even walk as far as Trouville or the nearby village. Beyond the local village, another long stretch of wild coast is also ideal for hiking and quiet days by the sea, leading as far as Honfleur.
There are yet more stunning beaches to be found in the resort of Trouville (4km), once a fishing port and now a vibrant town with so much Belle Époque charm, loved by great artists and writers from Monet to Flaubert. The Wednesday and Sunday morning markets are not to be missed and there are plenty of seafood restaurants around the atmospheric port. The historic wooden boardwalk is perfect for an evening stroll before admiring the town’s elegant 19th century casino on the beachfront.
Neighbouring Deauville (7km), a stylish seaside resort with another fantastic beach and boardwalk, features iconic Art Deco architecture, grand hotels, inviting shops and restaurants as well as being home to a number of cultural events throughout the year. Find golf, polo racing and thalassotherapy centres close by and look out for the glamourous American Film Festival if staying in early September.
