Fife Fortified Castle United Kingdom
Holiday Home Rental Description
On offer is a stunning large holiday home venue within a unique castle, which dates back to medieval times, which was rebuilt from ruin and restored to its former glory incorporating modern twists in 1996. Set above woodland on one side and an agricultural setting on the other, the castle has a large lawn area and an orchard within the 8 acres of private grounds, with a wonderful tree-lined driveway that leads you up to the castle. Above the doorway is a motto in Latin – “Dilexi Decorum Domus Tuae” which translated means – “I have loved, oh lord, thy beauty of the house” and your guests will indeed be bowled over when they see what this castle has to offer.
On entering via the steps at the turreted entrance, is the “Great Hall”, with minstrel’s gallery, which houses the living space and dining area, with kitchen next door. Here you will find a warming wood-burning stove and the beginning of the modern and ancient history of the castle. Spread over 5 floors, the accommodation is below this floor and on the floors above and sleeps up to 12 adults and 2 children. There is also a gallery on the top floor, which is a great room to gather in for your guests or for an event. The grounds consist of a herb garden, orchard and open area, open garage and walled viewing tower, with parking by the castle for about 8 cars. This is an amazing fortified tower house which has been lovingly restored in an authentic and contemporary manner and is ideal for family holidays, family occasions and for golfers.
The Great Hall can be found on the main floor level of this tower, which is accessed by steps up into the castle on arrival. Within this large space is housed the dining area and the main seating area by the wood-burning stove. With large windows and a minstrels gallery above it is an impressive room by any standards, but with modern carving and paintings throughout, it has a more modern touch. The compass room, which is a small anteroom, is to be found at this level. On the floor above is a smaller sitting room with wide-screen TV, which is ideal for children or just for a more cosy setting. On the top floor is a vast space the length of the building which known as the gallery. It is ideal for hosting a drinks party for your group or an event for up to 30 guests on occasion by request. There are two water closets available for guests.
Within the Great Hall is housed the dining area and the main seating area by the wood-burning stove. The dining table is ideal for seating between 10/12 people and is a great oak table with dining chairs. According to previous visitors, the atmosphere is amazing once you put on with some candles, bring out your feast and add your guests to the mix, which all creates a very special occasion. The kitchen is located next door and is a well-equipped kitchen, with traditional AGA. Whilst there is also a separate electric hob as well to cater for all your cooking needs. For less formal dining, there is a table in the kitchen where informal breakfasts or children can be fed. There is a utility room next door and access to a back door, which leads outside to some steps into the castle.
