If you have something more spiritual and contemplative in mind, Kuta has many beautiful cultural landscapes to explore. Petitenget Temple is a revered holy site originally built to ward off dark forest spirits and is still an active place of worship for the local people. The intricate architecture of this beautiful temple has a rustic feel of red brick and sandstone. The staircase, inspired by a dragon, leads up to Balinese shrines and tourists may catch a glimpse of the locals presenting offerings and burning incense. Religious festivals are a common occurrence here and are often held on the adjacent beach – making it perfect for tourists to soak up the Balinese culture as well as the Balinese sun!
Petitenget Temple is not a bustling tourist attraction, but it is open to visitors who wish to enjoy the tranquil location and scenic views. A dress code does apply, with visitors asked to wear a sarong to cover their knees and ankles, and to ensure that shoulders and midriffs are covered.
